Hello all!

I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I've been breeding birds for almost 10 years, and am just now getting into breeding quakers. My question is about the one pair I have, the female is pallid blue, and the male is blue. I have been lookin all over online and cant find how the genetics works for pallids. If this pair has babies what will the colors likely be? Is pallid a sex linked gene? I've heard its hard to find a pallid blue male since most of them are born females. Sorry for so many questions! Thanks in advance!

Andie's mom is the one who knows about breeding quakers. I've heard that you shouldn't breed two blues together, because the result will be genetically weak. My blue came from a pallid blue and a green split to blue. The clutch included blues, greens, and a pallid.

I've been talking with Andie Wan Kenobi about this...she said that you are correct that the pallid color is a sex linked gene mostly females...but there are pallid males but it's like 1 in 10,000 or something like that. She said to ask you what the genetics of the male was...was it's mother a pallid or a blue or a green split to blue etc. If you can find that out she said she might be able to give you more of an idea as to what you can expect to receive.

If you want feel free to PM Andie Wan Kenobi directly and she'll get back to you.

Personally, I know very little about the mutation factors, I understand the how to go about things but not what you get from crossing the xx with the yy and the xyz LOL wink.gif

Carrie Anne is more into the genetics factors and probably understands it a whole lot better than I do, so you might also PM her directly as well.

Pallid is sex linked so if you blue male is not split to anything you will get 100% regular blues.
If your blue male is split to pallid then you will get 50% regular blues and 50% pallid blues. There is a good website on quaker genetics. I can post the link if anyone wants it.

I would like to see it, not because I would ever breed birds, but because I am very interested and like to know this kind of "geeky" stuff! Thanks much!
