I have read that sometimes motels who don't take pets will take birds, especially small birds like Quakers. My health has unexpectedly improved and we are now able to take short, weekend trips, but we have to take Toby with us. Obviously, we need a motel that will allow us to bring him. Some towns do not show a pet friendly motel (and atHilton Head, believe it or not, those that allowed pets restricted it to dogs only). So, do any of you know any motel chains that while they do not normally allow pets, will make an exception for birds? Thanks for any help you can give.

I have never traveled with Kiwi but always take my Yorkie with me. We try to stay at La Quinta whenever possible. They are very welcoming of dogs. You could try talking to them. I would speak with someone on the property you are planning to visit as opposed to the "reservations" line. Most probably finding a place that welcomes birds will be tougher due to the "noise" factor but if you can speak to someone where you will actually be taking the bird you could make a case for yourself. Good luck. I know how difficult it can be to find a spot thats right for you and your pets.

La Quinta takes all animals under 30 lbs but they are not supposed to be left in the room alone - ever. So that creates a problem when you wnat to go sight seeing or out for a meal. Now if you have a qp that will stay quiet while you are gone then there shouldn't be a problem but mine would scream every time they heard a door slam shut.
You could try checking with the tourism bureau of the city you want to visit - they should be able to help.

I used to work for the chain that includes Extended Stay America, Homestead Studio Suites, Extended Stay Deluxe. The rates are pretty good and the ones I worked at allowed dogs, cats and birds. Their website is extendedstayhotels.com.
