Mr. Kiwi, my quaker of almost 10 yrs and little chit, renamed by LuvMyHarley, Julie, ha ha, Gidget, is 4 and a half yrs old, green cheek conure.....they both have a day and night cage. Each morning I bring Kiwi out first to his day cage then I go get Gidget...........everytime and I mean everytime I go and get her off of her day cage, she bites me HARD. I have tried EVERYTHING......she didn't use to do this, she started this approximately 6 months ago. She has left several bleeding bites and bruises. Anyone know why this is happening????? It isn't like she doesn't know this routine.................it is the same everyday........

My Squirt has his own special, um, pet name too. It's a good thing green cheeks are so darn cute and always doing something adorable, huh?
Have you tried leaving her in her cage when she bites? Just lock her back up and walk out of the room- over and over and over and over again every time she steps up nicely?

LOL I know I shouldn`t laugh ..maybe she is tired of playing second fiddle and wants a turn at being No. one bird have you tried getting her first (just to see if she still bites ) have a go and see.... smile.gif Good luck and don`t blame me if she bites ya ... smile.gif

Oops- funny how one little word completely changes the meaning of a sentence.

this morning I go get Gidget out of her night cage.....she usually climbs right out on top of the cage.....today she got right on the door and I put my finger out and said "Step up" (prepared myself for the chomp!) and she didn't bite. It is a ways to the day cage, still preparing myself for the bite, didn't happen ohmy.gif I am not holding my breath for tomorrow morning laugh.gif the only thing different this morning was they were allowed to sleep in because today is my day off.....

Maybe and just maybe the little chit has been upset about you going to work, and since she knows by instinct that you are off today, everything is okay in her book... tongue.gif Just a thought.... smile.gif

LOL...well all she needs is a late start..more sleep ins..

Sandi, When you go to get her out of her cage, are you telling her to STEP UP in addition to giving her your finger?

I have noticed that Diego will bite me if I do not tell him STEP UP first, but just "give him the finger." ( tongue.gif ) I am not sure he knows what is happening if I just shove my finger at him. On the other hand, if I say, "Step up," wait about one second and THEN present my finger to him, he does exactly what I am asking.

I guess I just don't understand why all of sudden (6 months or so) that Gidget would change. Yesterday was a great day, this morning, not so much, nothing different I say step up each morning........I said step up this morning while she was on the door, she bit me like there was no tomorrow and yesterday, I did the same thing and she surprised me with NOT biting. Yesterday I got them up about 10:30 a.m. today I got them up @ 8:00. You think the time difference is what is affecting her. Can't quit my job and I have crazy hours.......and I try to get them up the same time, but some days I have to go in @ 10:00 and some days I go in @ 12:00...I think I am messing her up, but Mr. Kiwi isn't affected by it....he is still his "happy go lucky" self.. smile.gif

Quincy will go through phases too where he bites the hell out of me when I try and get him out of bed. It usually passes though and sometimes I will just use a perch to get him out.

Maybe she is ticked off about the change in schedule and doesn't like getting up early?

Holy Moly... Michelle is that really you!! .Haven't seen you in forever!

Yes that is our Michelle. I had to send her a PM........hope she stays awhile......
