She seems fine, isn't mad at me, eating and drinking normally, maybe just a TAD less energetic than usual. They said not to let her run around or climb stairs -- that's a problem, as our house sits up high and you have to climb stairs, but they said as long as she walks and doesn't run or leap, it's okay. The idea is to keep her heartbeat slow. I think she's going to be okay. Whew! biggrin.gif

Great news , now she would be on annual heart worm injection or a heart worm tab. daily to keep her healthy ...Its great she came through it o.k I hear its a pretty nasty treatment , right ..??
Best of luck and hugs to the little guy...

Aww, I hope she doesn't get heartworms again....I don't know much about them because I'm in a part of the country where we don't really worry too much about them....

I sure hope she does ok. Heartworms are scary stuff sad.gif

Glad to hear she is ok. Do you have a baby gate that you could block the stairs with? Just a thought....
Joanne's Animal Kingdom
The main thing with the stairs or any activity is that they don't want her heart pumping the blood too fast as it will dislodge a killed worm. When this happens it can travel to a vein to small to pass through and cause an embolism or heart attack. They also recommend if you have an easily scared or nervous dog that they be put on tranquilizers. The goal is for the worm to decompose where ever it is so it doesn't cause problems. That is also why they put the dog on antibiotics - so the bacteria from the decomposing worm doesn't cause damage in the heart or other parts of the body.

The thing is, you can't go in or out without stairs, so she has to use stairs to get down to the yard to potty. The house is on a bit of a rise, with a tall basement so that both front and back doors are high off the ground. It's five steps up to the front door and eight up to the deck outside the back door. We don't use the front door -- the birds, you know -- so the dogs go out back for potty. The vet said if I made sure she doesn't bound up and down the steps and went with her to make her walk up and down, it would be okay. Gigi's pretty laid back unless the pizza man's at the door, and mostly a couch potato, too, so I think we'll be able to keep her calm.

I'm glad to hear she is home and doing well. That is wonderful news.

She picked up a case of kennel cough at the vet's, but they gave me medicine for that today and didn't even charge me for it -- which is only fair, since she caught it there. She kept us all up all night last night with her coughing and felt like crap this morning, I could tell. But she's had two doses now and some cough medicine, too, and I have high hopes we'll all sleep tonight.

That REALLY sucks- I sure hope George doesn't end up with it, too. Kennel cough is bad enough by itself, but on top of heartworm treatment? ugh! Hope she continues to feel better and does get some good rest!
Siobhan
Now she's got a big lump on her back that we think is a pulled muscle from coughing, poor baby. Her cough is better, but still pretty bad. She does feel better, though, I can tell. And so far (crossing fingers), George hasn't gotten sick.

My father's in ICU with renal failure -- that happened yesterday -- and Hubby just got home from spending a week with his sister while SHE was in ICU. She had spinal surgery. We're having a mighty rough patch. Sigh.

Oh no- I'm glad to hear hubby is back home now for support. Hope Dad and SIL and Gigi all feel better soon!!

Saying a prayer for you and your family right now Siobhan. It seems He is piling it on you right now. It WILL get better, I promise, ............... no HE promises............... but it sure is hard while we're going thru it. Praying for strength in your life and for those around you. (((HUGZ)))

That is so sad. I hope your pet (not sure what it is.. dog?) Gets better soon. That sounds so scary. On top of that a lump and cough? Wow. Sounds things are semi-ok now though. smile.gif
