Full Version: Hey, I'm New Here
Quaker Parrot Forum > Welcome! > Introductions
Burty
Found this site searching on google after I bought a Quaker Parrot on a street corner. Poor thing was out in the hot Florida sun panting like crazy and I bought it out of pity.

I named him Burty (don't know if it's a him actually) and now he's like my best friend. He's 4 months old and can do the wolf whistle already.

Well anyway I figured I should introduce me and my bird to you guys. Will be posting pics soon.

So glad that you found Burty and decided to give him a wonderful home with you! Quakers are great bird companions! A couple of suggestions to help you & Burty to have many healthy & happy years together. First, I highly recommend Mattie Sue Athans' book, Guide to the Quaker Parrot! It is an excellent resource for anyone interested in learning about Quakers. Second, provide a good diet including a good quality pellet. Quakers are prone to fatty liver disease and diet such as too much or too fatty seeds & other "bad" foods contribute to its development. I prefer to keep my birds away from the sunflower & other fatty seeds and only give "seeds' no more than a couple of times a week and only in small amounts when I do give seeds. If you have any questions please feel free to ask them. Everyone here tries to answer questions if they can.

Welcome to Quakers & the forum!
