My husband and I just adopted Juniper, our very first Quaker, last Sunday from a family who had a whole big breeding flock of Quakers they had to find homes for, because of the dad's illness. We also left with a pearl girl cockatiel who I already love (dunno how that happened!). Juniper was the second to last one left when I got there, and the last boy. He is 2-3 years old, and they say he was handfed but had gone quite wild after being left with the others due to the man's illness. I got bitten soo hard earlier this week, but all of a sudden everything is clicking!! Yesterday was our big breakthrough day and today was even better...he's stepping up, letting me pet and scratch him, taking toys and food from me! I am SOOOOOOO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!
The rest of our family includes a fabulous dog (medium mix), a bunny, a hedgie, 2 rats, a handfed cockatiel (oops make that 2 tiels now!) and 5 budgies (1 handfed). We are minus 1 budgie due to a terrible accidental escape over the summer...still hoping to find the little guy somehow. My bird experience is: I've had small birds, doves, a Congo grey (in the past) and worked for an aviary handfeeding different species of parrots as a young adult. When I have budgie babies I handfeed those guys too.
Anyway I guess that's it for now. We live right on the border of 2 states, one allows Qs and one does not. Interesting huh? Lookng forward to chatting with you!
