Full Version: Hi, We're Juniper's Family!
Quaker Parrot Forum > Welcome! > Introductions
SnooperLove
Hi everyone! I've read around a little bit and am starting to almost feel like I am getting to know you guys so I think it's time to introduce ourselves! smile.gif

My husband and I just adopted Juniper, our very first Quaker, last Sunday from a family who had a whole big breeding flock of Quakers they had to find homes for, because of the dad's illness. We also left with a pearl girl cockatiel who I already love (dunno how that happened!). Juniper was the second to last one left when I got there, and the last boy. He is 2-3 years old, and they say he was handfed but had gone quite wild after being left with the others due to the man's illness. I got bitten soo hard earlier this week, but all of a sudden everything is clicking!! Yesterday was our big breakthrough day and today was even better...he's stepping up, letting me pet and scratch him, taking toys and food from me! I am SOOOOOOO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!

The rest of our family includes a fabulous dog (medium mix), a bunny, a hedgie, 2 rats, a handfed cockatiel (oops make that 2 tiels now!) and 5 budgies (1 handfed). We are minus 1 budgie due to a terrible accidental escape over the summer...still hoping to find the little guy somehow. My bird experience is: I've had small birds, doves, a Congo grey (in the past) and worked for an aviary handfeeding different species of parrots as a young adult. When I have budgie babies I handfeed those guys too.

Anyway I guess that's it for now. We live right on the border of 2 states, one allows Qs and one does not. Interesting huh? Lookng forward to chatting with you! smile.gif

Hey thanks for the warm welcome! smile.gif And the encouragement! I can tell already that having a Quaker is going to be different from any other bird I have known. In just the short amount of time he's been here and even shorter time he's been taming and trusting, I am getting so attached to him. wub.gif

Can't wait to hear more about your fids and families! And Majj that's absolutely AWESOME about your daughter coming home! How exciting! biggrin.gif
