hi i have had my qp for 4 days now. This morning he seemed to be a little moody now all of the sudden he is not making any sounds or anything. he is sitting real still. i think i scared him earlier because he was climbing up my shoulder and i am trying to break him of the habit. he wouldnt come down so i kinda grabbed him off an told him no a litle firmer then i should have. But he was acting normal a little after that. He also is completely letting me touch his whole back and head now letting me pet him. Im really worried about this. He has been like this for the past hour. Is it possible he is tired. I also took him outside today and held him out there. I have also gotten him a new toy and treat along with a cuttlebone and some millet sprays i"m really worried please help. thanks

Could he be scared of the new toy? Sometimes when a lot of new things are introduced too quickly they can be overwhelmed.
Also if you've only had him for 4 days he could still be getting settled in and adjusted to you and everything new. His whole world has just been turned upside down.
Is this a baby or adult Quaker? I would just back off and take things a little slower. Talk softly to him and offer him treats and give him time to trust you. Are you planning to take him to a vet for a well checkup?
As far as tired how many hours of sleep is he getting? Quakers need a good 10-12 hours of dark and quiet.
On a side note I would not take him outside without a harness or in a small cage. Even if his wings are clipped, if he caught a gust of wind they can still fly. You also have to worry about birds of prey. There have been instances of hawks grabbing pets with their owners right there. Just my opinion. wink.gif
Welcome to the forum. There are lots of great people here.

Maybe you hurt him when you squeezed him? They are delicate and you have to be careful when handling them. You want them to trust you. Maybe he is sulking and is confused at your behavior when he was only making friends with you. Just talk softly be gentle with him and give him some treats so he will trust you again.( It may take awhile)

Hi- Is he eating ok? You have only had him for 4 days- he hasn't even really had time to even settle in yet. That might explain him being moody. Everything is new to him.
Hopefully someone with more experience will come along and help too.

Is he eating OK, do his poops look normal, is he fluffed up? After only having him for 4 days I would definitely just slow down a bit and let the bond develop between you and not force too many "rules" It's good to keep him off your shoulder but at the same time you want him to trust you and be comfortable with you. I would start over and just sit by his cage, read a little to him or talk to him, offer treats etc.

My vet said that cuttle bones are not good for parrots is this true? I think you might be a little aggressive with your fid you need to give it a little space. Is it still nipping at you?

I am hoping that he/ she is okay.

Beak grinding probably means his tired . And maybe his just quite cos of all the new things in his cage and a bit scared of all . You mention he never had much before so its probably to much to quick for him. Let him on your shoulder i don't belive its wrong thats just me.and my birds very good on my shoulder for like 8 years maybe not to much time on shoulders but i little is fine .. Ps is he getting some sleep during the day they moody things with out sleep.
