My babie Milo (who is five years old now) is plucking again and i'm so sad i dont know if i can go on with him doing this.

It was really bad this weekend. He bleed alot. I got it stoped and we have meds and all that i can get my hands on to help him with this but he just keeps it going. Last winter he stoped. Ohhhh was I happy. I just wounder what kind of life he has always soar and hurting? He's buzy all day. He builds with his sticks. he plays with paper and beads and wood toys. His diet is good. (I think that has alot to do with him still being here) I put pluck no more in his water. He gets mommy and me time each and every day. wub.gif I keep the air on and i have a humifier in the room with him. I got one of those sun lights for him. Baths, so on and so on and so on. I feel just sick for him. so helpless.

I hate to bring up stuff like this because its so sad and what can you say. But i really need a place to vent.

please keep him in your prays. I love him soooo much. I just need for him to be ok. I have to go to work and i worrie all day. Never knowing what i will find when i get home. Hubbie is tried of paying the vet bills. LOL We have really racked them up. Only to have him keep doing this to himself. sad.gif Has anyone else gone through this with a qp? What did you wind up doing?
here's a picture of my baby boy before he started all this. It's all under his wing. So you can't see it if you dont know what your looking for.

I'm so sorry, Lisa. It must be terrible to feel so helpless knowing your little one is hurting. Try, try, try not to let on to him that you're upset. Hugs to you both.

Geez---what are we going to do with that Milo---hmm, if the vet can't put an end to this, I wonder who can...
I can imagine it is heart breaking to see this...I'm beginning to wonder if Harley is plucking...I feel little pins all over him, hope it is just a big molt....he has been doing this for over a month; feathers every where....

Hopefully someone can see this and give you some ideas to try....In the meantime my prayers and thoughts go up for Mr. Milo.... cool.gif

And Lisa---I'm so glad to see you back on posting again...please stay around girl..... smile.gif

i'm sorry, lisa... only the people who have pluckers can really understand exactly how you're feeling. gator plucks. sometimes to the point of a sore or two but not bad enough to be condsidered a mutilator. sometimes i think it's worse on us than it is on them. try keeping your spirits up. you're doing all the right things!

LOL Emmit tells me to give him a woopin every day. laugh.gif She tells on him all the time. Everyday when my husband gets home she says to him Woogie DO IT. LOL too funny. I'll let Milo know a line is forming to spank him if he dont quit it. LOL

Thanks Julie

I have never had a plucker. But an idea! Have you had him checked for mites? I've heard that they gather under the wings. I hope this is not the case. I will pray for him!!!! Good luck I hope he stops for good.

Please don't feel bad about bringing this to the board. It is sad but it happens and more frequently than we'd like to think.

I have a quaker that plucks and mutilates and there is no stopping her it seems. She is a rescue that I've had for 3 years now, I've tried everything, the vets tried everything but she still must be collared most of her life to prevent her from fatally hurting herself. I love her beyond words and she's a happy bird but somewhere along the way learned this self destructive habit and it can't be broken.

The last link that Majj posted is a great link that list just about every possible cause of plucking. It list calcium deficiency also, I wonder if that could be the cause in Paulie and your little guy. Paulie never chews on a calcium or cuttle block, she just doesn't do it. I may try some calcium in the qater and see if that helps.

Good luck and please keep posting, it helps all of us with this terrible issue. God Bless. Bren

MIlo's still doing his thing. mellow.gif He's ok this week so far. I keep meds on him. I check him every morning and sometimes at night to. I've made a game out of it. Where i try and get his little chicken leg and give it kisses. because he sticks his one leg streight up in the air to keep me from looking under his wing. It makes him harder to hold. LOL He rather I didn't look under his wing. He don't want me to see. unsure.gif . The vet checked all his levels more than once. Everything seem to be fine. No mites. I've tryed calcium in his food with some powered food on his food. Didn't seem to make a diffrence. I try and get him to eat yogort ever so often. He likes that ok. I make a big deal out of the work he does during the day. In hopes he will work hard with his sticks and give himself a break. when He starts to heal up pretty good. He will go back in and do more damage. sad.gif I know I'm not suppose to show to much attition to this. But I want to jump out of my skin everytime he go's to groom under there. Ohhh it is very hard not to show him how much Im upset by this. Sometimes it takes shine right off my day. My sprit just drops. I think I cant take it anymore and maybe he's in pain and i should have him put down. I can't quit seem to let him go. sometimes I think i'm being selfish by keeping him around. If I though it would help him to be anywhere else with someone else I'd let him go. That's just asking someone else to take this on. Really I dont think I could breath without him. I know it sounds a little crazy but I never thought I could love anything as much as I love my Birds.
It's just diffrent. I guess because thay need me more than most people or pets i've had. It fills a need in me.

Ok getting a little deep here. whewww
Thanks for all the support it helps to know others can understand how hard this is and how much love go's into these little guys. Prayer works and I thank you for helping us. blush.gif
