Yoshi my Green cheek has started to bite at my fingers a lot lately. She normally steps up fine but once on she will latch on to my finger. This is a new habit she developed about a week ago. Even when i try to put her back on or in her cage she wont let go!! When I got her she stepped up so well and would never bite... I miss that Yoshi! lol
Some reasons I think this may be happening. I recently put up a large boing as a new play area outside of their cage for them. She ADORES this thing and I thought maybe she wants to be on that? (She does bite even if she isnt on it so I dont think this is the reason). She is also very young, about 4 months now. Could this just be like a baby stage she is going through? Seasons are changing so I know that could very well be a possability too. Its gotten darker a lot earlier now. Only other thing I can think of is I caught her and Cosmo mating once and she could have become very attached to him?
Any and all thoughts and/or advice to fix this problem is greatly appreciated!! smile.gif

My little Gidget (gc) is also a biter......she use to be my sweet little girl huh.gif I have no clue what I have done different in the past 4 yrs to warrant this, but we are working on it, slowly but surely. Unfortunately GC's can become nippy. I have to say their NIP is worse then my quaker's bite ohmy.gif The only time Gidget bites is when I take her out of her night time cage and take her to her day cage. Like I said we are working on this and it seems to be getting better rolleyes.gif

Ive tried some new things as well. She has stopped a little. The time she gets to biting the worse is when I try to put her BACK into the cage. She refuses to get off my hand. I think someone is a little attached wacko.gif

If it's mostly when you're trying to put her BACK in then you might try associating her going into the cage with something special. Have you tried keeping a treat that she would ONLY get when you put her into her cage? How much warning does she get when it's time to go back in? And what kind of a reaction are you giving when you do get bit? Like the step up ladder drills you probably did when she was little you might want to make a point of putting her back in, leaving her there for 30 odd seconds, then taking her back out again during her "play time" out so that it's not so final when she DOES have to go back in. Ummm.. that's all I can think of right nwo. =) Best of luck!

That's some great advice. My Conures, both of which are sweethearts, can get testy when I decide to take them off of their boing. They love being up there. I usually will have to stand on a chair, so I'm the same height as them, in order to get them off.

I also can't stress enough how important it is to teach birds to step up onto a perch. This way, for those times when they refuse to step up, they aren't biting at your fingers, they are biting at the perch.
