I have a humidifier for Angel during the Winter. It keeps the air moist during these months when the heat is on so much. It can get very dry for your parrot. I know they like the humidity along with the warmth. This is just a reminder to those with humidifiers. Maybe you can buy a cheap one if you don't have one. wink.gif

You know what I think works just as well as a humidifier, but is cheaper and doesn't require a filter? A crockpot! We have one in the birdroom and I literally have to refill it every day! I always add some GSE, Vanodine, or vinegar to the water, and twice a week I wash the whole thing and start with fresh water. You can also add some cinnamon sticks while it simmers and the whole room will smell good! NO filters to worry about! In fact, I got the crockpot from freecycle, so it cost me nothing! smile.gif

Hello..Does the crock pot have to be warm or on heat in order to work though? I mean does it cost you to do this?
Animal Quackers
Oh sure, you have to turn it on, just like you would a humidifier.

One more question...do you leave the lid off because I am considering this as an alternative? I have A.C.V...would that work?

When the cage doors are closed, yes, I leave the lid off. Otherwise, the crockpot is out of reach of the fids and I either leave the lid ajar or I put a screen over the top so there is no way the birds could accidentally fall in there! I think ACV would work - it is just more expensive then plain white vinegar. Just make sure you clean the pot a couple times a week - it is definitely easier to clean than a humidifier, in my opinion!

You know what.. I totally agree with you. Buying a water filter every so often gets expensive..rather than using a crock pot. I will consider this in the future although haha..I do not have a crock pot yet. Hmm. I will have to get a cheap one. Thanks!!:)) wink.gif

You freecycle too!!! That is a GREAT program isn't it? I've gotten a perfectly fine TV, clothing, fans, all kinds of stuff from freecycle, and I've gotten rid of some of that 'someday' stuff sitting around the house. I don't use some of the blankets so off to freecycle, kids toys, radio, books, cardboard boxes, almost anything. I've gotten a couple flats of impatients last year so got to decorate around the house with flowers! biggrin.gif I LOVE freecycle. I just picked up a box of sweaters the other day, some fit me, some will fit someone else and I'll pass them on or freecycle them back into the system.

Between Freecycle and Angel Food, I find ways to save money!
