Good luck. I hope you do better than I did. I did not like the little cage that I used to take Toby places. He could get the door partially open and I was afraid that he might get his head or something caught in it. So I bought this bigger, much nicer cage. Well, Toby took one look at it, obviously figured out what it was here for (a trip to the vets) and took off in the other direction. I put it on the floor where he goes down a ladder and he refused to use the ladder. Now I have it covered with a towel and he is actually sitting on it. I will try to expose more and more of the cage and see if he gets used to it before we have to use it. I would hate to put him in it while he is completely terrified of it, but I need to get his wings clipped pretty soon. Yesterday, he flew into the window three times and I was a nervous wreck. Anyway, I hope your little ones like their cages better than Toby likes his new one.

I am not sure what is available in the US but we got this carrier here in Toronto for $20 at PetSmart yesterday. I wasn't sure how I was going to get him to the vet on Tuesday. So, am I suppposed to introduce him to the carrier before the trip? I didnt know this, I guess it makes sense, I don't want to frighten him.

That's the kind of carrier I have -- it's actually meant for ferrets -- but the person at Petsmart who suggested it said she uses it for her quaker. Let me tell you, they DON'T like it. laugh.gif Both Clyde and Jade have taken rides in it -- poor Jade was in it for over two hours when we went to get her from Donella's -- and Bonnie rode in it to the vet's once, too, but that's only about 10 minutes each way. Clyde hated it going, but didn't mind it as much coming home and even chattered to me on the way home, but Jade tried to destroy it from the inside out and poor little Bonnie just huddled in the corner like she was waiting for something to eat her. I would most definitely let your bird see it and hang around it before you stuff him in unexpectedly. Try putting some of his most favorite food in there so he'll go in after it and see that the inside isn't a monster that eats Quakers. I really had a battle getting Clyde into that thing. Had to towel him. He HATES being toweled.

Yes, its a small animal carrier. The woman in the pet store didn't seem to know what she was talking about. We asked her if they had something to carry a small parrot and she pointed us to the dog and cat carriers, we asked if there was anything smaller and she told us there wasn't. We looked in the small animal department anyway and found this. Anyway, it looks like I lucked out because so far Khego doesn't seem to mind it. I set him in the doorway and he walked right in turned around and looked at me. After that I spent about 5 minutes playing peek-a-bird closing and opening the door.

Personally I don't like soft sided carriers because they're are too easily destroyed; as siobhan stated. Birds can make quick work of soft sided things if they get bored.

Plus, while its possible to attach a perch to it, I don't think it would seem as secure as a hard sided carrier.

Keep in mind that I'm used to needing to ship birds all over the US and the soft sided ones just don't meet airline regulations. Try putting a cockatoo or an amazon in a soft sided carrier and see what happens wink.gif biggrin.gif

But if it works for you...that's all that matters...just be carefull that something doesn't get set on the carrier while the bird is in it...

I'm not sure about the one you're asking about, but I just ordered this carrier from Petco.com and it has great reviews. A few even say they specifically have used it for Quakers. http://www.petco.com/product/9601/Avian-Se...at=OnSiteSearch
Sorry, I don't know how to insert a simple hyperlink.

I noticed those ones at the pet store too while I was looking for a sleeping cage. I was worried that it would get chowed on from the inside. How are you finding it? LOL And if you haven't tried it yet... can you give me a run down of what you think of it after you've had some time playing with it? It looks like a neat idea and you can't beat the cost when it's just for things like vet trips.

Thanks a bunch, Rainfire!

Well, I took Khego to the vet in it on Tuesday and it went well. He didnt freek out until we got to the vets office lol, and the trip home was great!! I noticed he was chewing a bit from the inside where the screen was but did minimal damage. Over all, im pleased with it. He also wasn't at all upset with me when we got home which I thought he might be.
