I'm shopping online right now for a new pellet for Petri...he's most likely allergic to the Zupreem fruit blend I've been giving him since I got him. Hopefully this will get his plucking and mutilating to stop completely. However, I don't know which one to get...
Is it more common for a quaker to be allergic to corn or to the dye in pellets?
Has anyone ever had this problem with there bird?

Roudybush makes a plain pellet that lots of people here have good luck with. Mine like the Zupreem fruity pellets and have never had a problem so I just get that for them. If Zupreem has already proven to be a problem, then maybe you ought to switch brands completely.

My understanding is that it's not uncommon for them to be allergic to the dyes in pellets. You could try the non-fruity variety of zupreem. I know Roudybush also makes a rice-based line of pellets for those with corn allergies, but I'd try to rule out the dye problem first. Good luck.

I agree with Way2Bizzy about just trying to feed the Zupreem natural; while it may still have the same basic formula, it might just be the dye. It could be just like people who are allergic to dyes in foods etc. But the Roudybush rice based formuula is also a good food, and it wouldn't be wrong to just switch to it, but you'll probably should introduce it slowly by mixing it 1/2 / 1/2 with what he's used to eating and gradually move to the new food.
Good Luck.

As already suggested you might try the Zupreem Natural in the size he already likes. I had a bird that was overpreening and it was suggested that he be switched from his colored pellet (also Zupreem) to Harrison's. Harrison's is a bit expensive but it really helped my bird so I keep it as a part of all my birds' diet. All my birds love the Harrisons by the way. If it is an allergy to something besides the coloring you might try the Roudybush Rice diet. Hope you can find something he likes & it will help! Good luck & let us know how it goes with your baby.
