Hi all. I'm wondering what you all think about Yoda's cage size. It's a Top Wing starter cage, which is what was recommended by the store where I bought him. I feel like his cage may be a bit small, but right now my finances don't allow me to buy him the big $350 cage I would like to. He also gets to spend a lot of time out of his cage and on top of his cage, so he's not stuck in it all day, but I'm just not sure if his cage is too small. I would just like some opinions from everyone. Thanks so much!

It looks fine......especially when he has alot of "out of cage time"

Clyde lived in a cage like that for months, until I could afford to get him the one he has now, and if he spends a lot of time out of it, it should be okay. Check eBay -- I got Clyde a huge cage on there for $150 (shipping FREE) from Demsond's pet supplies. It's an eBay store.

Thanks, I will check the ebay store. I'm hesitant to buy online because you can't tell if the cage is vinyl coated or powder finished, but I will definitely check. I appreciate both your responses!

Honestly, it does look a TINY bit too small for him, but if it's just a temporary cage until he gets a bigger one I don't think it's bad at all. Where did you see a bigger cage for 350 dollars??? That is SO expensive, I wouldn't buy that either! You probably saw it at a pet store. Pet stores UPCHARGE everything to a ridiculous amount. My quaker had a cage smaller than yours has for the first month or so until I saved to up get him a cage from eBay.
It's recommended that the minimum size cage for a quaker is 18X18. The cage that I ended up getting is 24X22X63 and I absolutely love it. I bought my cage from Desmond Pet Depot on Ebay (it's SO much cheaper than pet stores!).

Here is the link for the cage that I bought:

but there are nice different ones on there too!

I saw that one, it was one of the better priced and sized ones that I saw. Yoda isn't flighted yet, his feathers are growing in slowly, and occasionally has some balance issues on his perches, so I'm afraid to get one that's too high. However, I am looking at all the cages, and debating on buying him a new one. Right now, he seems happy enough in his present cage, and he does get a lot of time out of it. More than likely, he will be getting a bigger home soon though.

Thanks for all your help everyone!

Also, when you buy from ebay, do the cages come in pieces? it seems that it would have to be a pretty large box to accommodate such a large cage...do-it-yourself assembly is not my forte tongue.gif

This is the cage I got for Kiwi about 2 yrs ago and it is plenty big enough.

My birds were in a minimum size cage for the first year or so (18 x 18) they did fine because they both got alot of out of cage time......

i wouldnt worry about him being in a cage that is too tall

oliver is not flighted and his cage is 4ft tall(taller if you include the bottom part that has the wheels etc)
anyway he never has a problem falling or anything inside the cage

Standard rule of thumb the Minimum size for a quaker is 18 x 18. When I first got my quaker she lived in that one for about 3 years until I was able to find "just the right cage" As long as he's able to be out of the cage a lot that's fine.

Just make sure that you arrange it so that he still has room to spread his wings totally out without hitting a perch or a toy so he can exercise his wings inside the cage too.

That ebay store is great! I just ordered a new cage from cages4less.com and the exact some one was on eBay for $30 less. I wish I would have known about it before, but I would definitely recommend anyone who hasn't bought their cage yet to check it out.
