I am so ignorant. Believe it or not i think im the only one who dosent own an I POD. I have been thinking about buying one this would be my first experience with owning one but... i didnt realize that there are so many different ones out there on the market. YIKES I want a simple one enough to understand for a beginner like me. any advice on recommending an ipod for a total beginner like me would be helpful. thanks

I have one of the old ipod nanos,
the model before the new ones with cameras.
It's pretty simple, you just have to get used to the circular navigation thingy, lol.
They should be pretty decent price now, since the new models are coming out (or are already out?)
They're a nice small size, so you can just put them in your pocket,
but they do scratch pretty easily, i had to get a case for mine.

That is assuming that you don't want a model with a camera built in,
however I'm not sure how high quality the camera is, and i figure
if you have a good camera anyway it's kinda pointless.

** Also assuming that you dont need like 10000 songs on the thing,
an 8 or 16gig nano should be fine. Apparently you can fit 2000 songs on an 8gig ipod,
assuming that its just songs and not movies.

And lastly - it depends. An Ipod shuffle is alright, except you cant choose a song if you want to listen to it,
you just have to hit next and hope you get lucky, that's why i prefer the nano.

Sorry to rant on, I hope that helps happy.gif

I don't have an iPod, either. I did finally give in and get a CD player because that was the only option, but I prefer vinyl albums! So I don't know anything about them -- however, I was looking for something else and stumbled upon iPods that have a built-in radio. If I was going to get one, I'd get one with a radio.

I got an iPod Nano for my birthday......I'm still figuring it all out. I just found some games on it! Unfortunately, I don't know how to erase the memory I used playing one of the games and use it for all my music....

Putting music on it is pretty simple, just download iTunes and you can upload music from CDs or buy songs.

I have a Shuffle and one of the older Nanos (before the new one came out very recently). If you just want something small and basic the shuffle is cheap and easy to use.. the only downside is there is no screen. The new nanos look pretty cool, they have the built in camera and a radio I believe.. that's probably the one you want, they're perfect for everything. smile.gif If you want something more high tech there is the iPod Touch.. I really want one but they are pretty expensive blink.gif I like the Touch because it has WiFi so you can go online wherever networks are available, so it's like a laptop, just super small lol.

What would you be using it for? (ie walking to work, working out, etc. etc.)

I sooooooooooooooo want the iTouch!! My daughter and SIL had one (till baby drooled too much on it) and I loved it ... we could go out to dinner and still get online (as long as WiFi was around). I loved that. I need a way to take my laptop with me and that would be perfect. Of course, with me, it might NOT be a good thing....no onlining when I'm driving dry.gif lol

But I want one, especially for traveling. So much easier to use iTouch in an airport than dragging the laptop around. My next electronic toy will be the iTouch!

A shuffle would probably work for you, it's very simple and easy to use. I'd go with that one unless you want a screen, then I'd go with the Nano.. but a shuffle would work fine for traveling etc. smile.gif

Oh Jo, I want a iPod Touch SO bad!! but they're like the same price as the tiny 8" laptops that are out now, lol. blink.gif

If you can spend the money I would go for the Ipod touch. I have the 16 gb and I love it. I had the 32gb video Ipod but the screen is so small and I am so old I couldnt see it. I am not very savy but its really is user friendly.

I got a 4gig nano ipod like 4 years back i hardly use it smile.gif it fits abouts 200 good quality songs alot more if they not so great quality ones . And i got a 2gig one which i thought i'd lost which i found not to long ago. Rather get a 16gig then you can put it videos and lots of bird pics smile.gif. Iphones are more trouble than they worth i wouldn't want one i'll stick to nokia you can put in big memory cards and have plenty music and they don't freeze up on you every 5 secs.

I've got three iPods :: Two old Shuffle's (A 1GB & a 2GB) as well as a 8GB Nano. The previous model to the current release. I love mine, but when I was putting video on it I wantedit bigger. There is nothing more annoying that having to re-load them because you've been putting show's on and off. A normal series will be held just fine (season in the US), but usually you cannot have any music loaded at the same time.

My next player is going to have to be at least a 16GB.

But for you :: Decide what you want it for, and there is somthing wrong with purchasing a 16GB Nano, then later deciding you need more space for vids or something. I know a lot of people that have more than one!

I've had Nano and a Classic. Each of my kids have a Shuffle, now I have a Touch and I say, the Touch rocks!
Wouldn't have any other ipod. I love all I can do with the Touch. I am addicted to the Apps. smile.gif
