Full Version: My Little Mouse Is Coming Along!

After running and hiding from me for ages, Henry's coming around. Now he'll sit in my hand and nibble on me and let me pet him and doesn't run from me at all, but he expects his fresh food dish promptly and as soon as I give it to him, he's had all he wants of me until he gets his little mousie tummy full. laugh.gif

I took his aquarium off the dresser and set it on the bed so I could sit down and play with him and he didn't know if he liked having his aquarium moved, but it was much easier to reach in that way. (I'd have sat on the floor, but I figured the dogs would come and interfere if I did that. You can't sit on the floor in a house where a Lab lives without having said Lab in your lap.)

He even got on top of his little treehouse and I had my face right down there practically touching his nose and that was okay, too. He's just too cute.

I'm wondering if he needs a little mousie bathtub. Do mice take baths? I saw "rodent" bathtubs at the pet shop, but he's got an awful lot of stuff in his little world already, and I don't want to bother if he wouldn't use it.

He sounds so cute. You could close the dogs out of the room and make the bed up so the blanket's pulled tight then toss a couple of washclothes or something to make hidey holes and let him run around and play with him. my ratties used to love that.

When he gets a bit tamer, I'm going to try the tub -- I read about that on a mouse forum. You put Mousie in the tub, where he can't escape, and he gets to run around and you can play with him and get him even more used to you that way. I'm a little afraid to play with him on the bed unless he's in his aquarium, because if he got away from me and got lost in the house, we have wild mice. Poor little plump Henry wouldn't have a chance with them.

Nothing new, Majj. Things have been crazy around here. Dad and Hubby's sister both in hospitals, sick dogs (one with heartworms, one with ear infection, both better now), a mother who refuses to be reasonable about home health care for Dad when he gets out of the hospital, and now a sick Hubby, who has an ear infection himself. I have ordered my only sibling that he is NOT allowed to get sick in any way, shape or form for the foreseeable future, and the birds and Henry are under the same orders. So taking pictures has kind of taken a back seat. I will get some soon!

Even tho I don't like mice, hamsters, gerbils & rats laugh.gif Henry sounds like a little cutie! I had my fair share of hamsters and gerbils when my kids were growing up. I was the one that always had to take care of them wink.gif

I had a hamster growing up, my neighbor and I set up a lemonade stand one summer and made enough to buy the supplies and "Coolio". We would trade weeks with him, one week at Angela's house, one week at my house. It was fun! LOL My mom is terrified of all rodents (well, except squirrels) so she refused to do anything for him.....smile.gif

Quite a few years after Coolio, my mom was in the garage, going to empty a big bag of cat food into a plastic storage bin and I was upstairs and could hear her screaming and having a fit. I ran down to see what the problem was, and in the bag of cat food was sitting a little wild mouse. It was super cute! She made me take it outside and I dumped the mouse on the grass, but unfortunately I didn't see our cat hiding in the bushes and as soon as the mouse hit the grass Juni pounced and killed it. I screamed and started crying, it still makes me sad, thinking about it.....poor little guy.
