This is something I have never seen before, or ever even heard of. This woman lives in a Hummingbird fly zone. As they migrated, about 20 of them were in her yard. She took the little red dish, filled it with sugar water and this is the result.

The woman is of Pine, Louisiana - she has been studying them daily and one morning put the cup from the feeder, with water in it, in her hand; as they had gotten used to her standing by the feeder they came over to her hand. She says in touching they are as light as a feather.

Isn't that something? Hummingbirds just aren't afraid of people. Our hummingbird feeder is on the deck just a few feet away from where we sit out there, and they come right up to it and have even come over to peer at us. One landed on the table between us once.

Great pics, Sandi- thanks for sharing those! I see these kinds of pics in birds & blooms magazine sometimes and just love them.

I have a couple of hummingbirds that like to check out the petunias hanging by my front steps, outside my front window. Squirt (gcc) loves to run over and watch them. Sometimes he yells and hops up and down- don't know if he wants to play with them or just alerting the rest of the flock to beware. Either way it's cute smile.gif

I love hummingbirds. This is a funny video I took this Spring.

My first hummingbird came in May, and the last one left Oct. 4. I miss them already.
I managed to get hummingbirds on my hand, but never at home, close to the city. That only worked up North at a cottage.
It also worked in Arizona...where there are many beautiful hummingbirds. We only have the Ruby throated hummingbird here in Ontario.

Here was a hummingbird sunning itself. At first I thought it was dead...

Hummingbirds are so interesting. My brother had them at his last place and he did an experiment with them to see if he could get them to come in the house. He opened up his big living room window and placed the hummingbird feeder inside by the window and sure enough they flew in to feed, Then he started standing closer to the feeder every day and was able to get right up to the feeder and the would sit on his finger and feed out of the feeder.

They really are amazing little creatures.
