WOW! WOW! WOW!THE most amazing thing happened today!
I was chatting with
Ndhlovu earlier today. I had her on my hand and was nuzzling her beak the way we do, when I heard the sound of big wings (as opposed to quaker wings or even jackdaw wings) and then boom - I felt a sudden weight on my shoulder.
INDUNA FLEW UP ONTO MY SHOULDER FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER!This is a breakthrough beyond any other!
I am still completely flabbergasted. I nearly sh@t myself, of course, because he still bites, but I was just so amazed that he flew up and sat on my shoulder of his own accord.
I need a stiff drink to recover from the magnitude of it all...

Induna is an African Grey that I rescued 5 years ago. He was badly abused by former owners - they beat him with fists and sticks - and then neglected for a couple of years by another. When he came to me, he was utterly terrified of people. It has been 5 long years of hard work, but the events of today have made it all worth the effort!

OH CQ. That's a wonderful breakthrough and a grand testament to the way you love and care for those birds. Everything we do comes back to us one way or another and that's some of what you feel for the birds coming back to you!
It's especially nice to know that Induna is finally feeling so free and easy. There aren't enough words to tell of the kindness you have bestowed on that bird to earn his trust. I'm so happy it has paid off. Induna is telling you how happy he is. Be blessed for all you have done!
PS:, I probably would have cried some big old happy tears!

Congratulations! Its the best feeling in the world. I will bet that he now starts to open more and more, in subtle little ways to continue to test the waters. You CAN teach an old bird new tricks- you just need patience and love! Good for you, good on you- both of you!
You will have a new spring in your step for the next few days, enjoy it!

Take my word for it when I tell you there is a whole subculture about bacon. I belong to a motorcycling group and bacon is, well...manna.
Google (images) for bacon weaving. LOL!
BTW: congrats on your baby coming to you. I read posts like this and I think we may have it easy. Zoe has been neglected and yelled at, but no abuse. She is ill-mannered and starved for attention, but she is responding to positive reinforcement. She flew to me three times last night (landed on my head, the little turkey.

O. M. G. I had no idea!!! I am in awe.
My life hitherto has been for naught. My new passion shall be to perfect the art of weaving the bacon. The practical uses are mind-boggling. For example:
The Bacon Bowl. Never again will breakfast cereal be boring....
