Hi I`ve had Kes now for 3 weeks (14 weeks old) and he`s starting to turn over the newspaper at the bottom of the cage. Is this normal behaviour and why is he doing it?

Maybe he read all the stories on the front and wants to read the ones on the back.

Neither of mine are interested in their newspaper, though Jade sometimes likes to play tug of war when I change hers. But there are plenty of birds who enjoy building and rearranging, and maybe yours is like that.

Its pretty normal if they can get to it. Curiosity mostly at this age and it gives them something to tear up and destroy.

Do you have a bottom grate on your cage? I like to use the grates because it keeps them up out of their droppings and then normally they can't get to the paper.

It won't hurt them to be down there as long as they aren't trying to eat their droppings or food that has been soiled.

yep mine play on the bottom and I have a whole newspaper down and just roll up a sheet at a time ...sometimes they will rip the paper and play other times they don`t take any interest , I prefer to have it for them to walk on rather than the grate...

Mr. Kiwi plays with his paper all of the time......here is a picture of what it looks like after he gets done...

My fids all chew on the bottom paper a bit. Normal behavior.

OMG Majj if I were to put a box in the cage with Isis, he'd have a heart attack!!! If I just CARRY one across the room to put out with the trash, he has a calling fit to let me know 'Its gonna EAT me!!' Silly fid!!

racal actually will pull his paper out like he's chanhing it himself he gets the paper out of the drawer thingy that pulls out and throws it on the floor ,,,,,,,,,,then laughs and I have to clean it up

Mater will pull his up and tries to attack it! I might try the box thing.. Never thought about that..

Lamo! Good one! Yeah there isn't much a Quaker won't explore! It's normal. Verde loves to go in everyone's cage and rip up their paper through the grate of their cages.

Oh yeah they loves boxes, especially the 12 pack pop ones! They make great green chicken forts don't ya know!
