This morning he was fine... This afternoon, my husband used a teflon pan. It ws about 15-20 ft away frm Bhurji an I always tell him NOT to!!! I saw it and switched it off... A little while later, BHurji was SO lethargic and falling asleep while I was holding hiim!!! In between he ate a cashew and some bread... I freaked...A little while later, he vomited!!

I freaked. I took him to a Vet ER. They looked at him, did a physical and blood work etc (results back tomorrow). They said if i was teflon he would show respiratory distress but he had none and was otherwise alert etc. THey said to keep an eye on him for the night..
He seems to be alright now, tired, but alright...But he normally gets sleepy at this time. I was SO worried, and am so worried about him...
Please pray that he is OK!!! They said he might have just eaten something bad...They gave him fluids under his skin. He seems to generally be himself...
Any advice would be appreciated. Why else would he vomit and suddenly have gotten SO lethargic?? He was still perching. Wasnt at the bottom of the cage, but was NOT himself and suddenly puked... My poor baby. I hope he is fine and just had some food issue!!!

First thing I would do is pitch the Teflon pans. We had one and I didn't know it was dangerous to birds and we kept using it for a long while before I found out. I tossed it because I was afraid we'd forget not to use it.
Since you took him to a vet and the vet said he seemed all right, he probably is, though you know him best. If he's acting as usual, and would be sleepy by now anyway, then you should let him follow his usual schedule and just keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't start acting different.

I remember when Yoda was sick and throwing up. He hadn't been eating but I hadn't realized because he kept the pellets in his hand. He was throwing up anything he ate, and then eating his regurgitation. It was terrifying for mommy. I took him to the vet, who gave Yoda antibiotics that he refused to take! After a few days back on his regular food, Yoda was better, but I definitely understand what you're going through, it's terrifying! I hope Bhurji gets well SOON!
Lots of love your way!

Was Yoda acting lethargic?? Bhurji is so sleepy right now but that might be his super stressful day... He ate a lot. He just ate pellets, and cereal, and nuts etc. and drank water. His appetite is fine. Poop normal...Just very tired now.. I am hoping he feels better tomorrow...

Keep him warm, but no warmer than 98 degree's. Even though he's sleeping, I'd put a light on him...Light therapy works wonders for our feathered friends, I'd also make sure that his cage is farther away from the kitchen and keep in mind that if you're afraid of teflon toxicity get the animal outside into fresh air asap. It only takes seconds for it to be fatal.
Now my next question, you said he vomited...was it frothy or were there chunks of food with it.
Just keep a close eye on him and if he stays lethargic for more than 24 hours you need to get him back to the vet very soon.
Hope he's feeling better soon.

I did not look at his vomit carefully...Had mucus though...Was just sort of a whitish color...He is eating so much this evening. Keeps eating. Good sign. Acting more like himself... I hope he is much better by tomorrow!!!

I hope he is back to himself tomorrow!!! My poor little buddy...I felt SO helpless...Poor guys cant talk and tell you how they are feeling...

I just love him so much... I am praying that he feels ok!

Here's hoping he's okay.
I have to third (or fourth/fifth) the comments about using non-stick cookware around birds. There have been far too many birds who have died needlessly due to the use of non-stick cookware. Even if the bird is at the other end of the house, it still can be affected by the fumes.

I agree. Pitch the teflon. You said you told your husband not to use them and he did anyhow? Wow I hope he won't do that again. Poor Bhurji.

Hope is doing better now.

I am reading this posts and I had no idea about the dangers of using teflon pans,. I have used teflon pans within a 25 foot radius of my Pete bird who died in July. He was 9 years old, and I had always used non stick pans for years. Now I wonder if perhaps the new pan I got this summer which was a small calphlon non stick egg pan was the problem????
I hope your bird gets better...please keep us updated. I'm really starting to get nervous about the arrival of my new baby coming mid november. The more I read on this web site, the more I realize how many things can go wrong ....
