Can Onion powder kill QP's. I was having dinner and Ollie was sitting on my shoulder and he snagged a piece of meat off my fork. The seasoning on the meat contained onion as well as garlic powder. Is he going to be ok???

Mine eat stuff like that all the time. Onion isn't particularly good for them, but if it would hurt them, mine would be sick all the time. Hubby puts onion in EVERYTHING and the birds eat everything we eat.

Actually the powder won't hurt them the way eating a piece of raw onion or garlic would. What happens if they eat raw onion is it causes the red blood cells not to form and causes anemia.

A little piece of meat with some onion and garlic powder probably won't hurt them but I definitely wouldn't allow them to have it as a daily thing.

My birds would definitely be in trouble when I give them spaghetti with some sauce on it if that were the case because I use onion and garlic powder in everything. But then again...they don't get it very often.

Andie's Mom thank-you for the information about the raw onion! Before this I had thought it was any onion, and tried to limit the onion intake...

Which was really hard because Sprocket's favorite human foods contain onion :: Mashed Potatoes with Real Butter, and Heavy Whipping Cream, and Navy Bean Soup with A Grated Sweet Onion, A Red Apple, and Ham. (There is not any pepper nor salt added to this dish, but the grated onion made me limit Sprocket's intake!)

If its fresh grated onion I'd be really leary...if its been dehydrated first I wouldn't be as concerned but just don't make it an every day occurance...

It's cooked on the stove for three hours. Is that alright when he only get's it once a month?
