Quaker Parrot Forum > Welcome! > Introductions

Hello all,
Just registered. I do not currently have a Quaker but hope to someday. A friend of mine has one and he is a HOOT!!
I myself have 2 rehomed Cockatiels. Johnny is 3 yrs old and has been with us for 6 months. Cody is 6 months and he came to us 2 months ago. Quite amazing both of them. Johnny was slower to warm up, I do not know his history, but he now talks, calls and lets me give head scritches. He has quite a vocabulary. Cody being a baby still beeps and chirps but tries so hard to attempt words. Hes all over the cage and his toys unlike J who is very calm. My husband is from Ohio, we have been married 23 years, have 5 children from 21 to 8 yrs old. I myself do not work as I am a disabled vet so I get to stay home with my fids and my kids. I am a member of 2 other bird sites/clubs. I was looking for *bird chats* on google and found your site. Hope to make new parront friends and get lots of info and advice.

Welcome Kathie. We LOVE talinga bout fids, kids, and families so you'll fit right in.

First off, I want to thank you for your service. People seem to forget that we don't have a draft now and our servicepeople VOLUNTEER nowdays. Thank you for your sacrifice.

Second, you dont' HAVE to have a quaker to fit right in here! biggrin.gif Most of us have many varieties of fids (feathered kids) and some have no quakers at all so as long as you're an animal lover, you'll find like minded folks here!

Just jump right in on one of the forum threads. Everyone's opinions are welcomed and values. Not too much disagreement going on here (some, but easily contained) and you shouldnt find any flaming, name calling type of postings here. We are a pretty good decent bunch of people biggrin.gif

Welcome, I look forward to hearing about Johnny and Cody. Tiels are such sweet little birds. I have two myself and they are the sweetest fids.

Welcome from me, too! I'd LOVE to have a cockatiel but I can't figure out where we'd put him, what with two budgies, two parrots, two dogs, a mouse, and us. laugh.gif And you're right, Quakers are a hoot. Our two are the entertainment directors for the rest of us, and Clyde also has the heavy responsibility of keeping everyone else in line, as he's Grand Poobah of the household.

Thank you for all the warm welcomes! We live just outside of Zanesville. Dont have alot of photos at the moment as camera broke but will add a couple of each bird I do have in pc. Johnny is the yellow crested...Cody is the Grey. Ty for mentioning and thanking my service, I am a Gulf War era Vet. My oldest son was 2 and half when our unit was sent over. It was a short war unlike what our soldiers now deal with. My unit was on the front lines the whole time, saw it all and took several casualties. To this day I still fight my govmnt for proper recognition. I am rated at 50% disabilty yet only get paid 30%. Must be gvmnt math!! Because I refused help, (they didnt have assistance for soldiers back then like they have now, had work ethic and pride, drove on and worked for 7 years after the fact, SSI refuses to acknowledge my VA disability. blink.gif
