We're trying Kiko on whatever we've been eating to see what she's tried and what she likes. She LOVES oranges. She doesn't mind apple, she likes playing with celery tops, and bread crust went over really well though it looked a little dry. LOL She had a bit of trouble working it down into her crop.

LOL And it turns out she knows Cockatiel. LOUD cockatiel.

I know that there are a bunch of different opinions on citrus and right now if I can use a little bit of orange juice to help convert her to her pellets I think it would help. I just don't want to OD her on fruit sugars. rolleyes.gif

Thank you!

Oranges are fine in small doses. My guys like them too.

In getting her converted to pellets have you tried the conversion method listed in the Diet and health section and its pinned? This method works really well, but if you want to use some type of juice to help convert, I'd suggest unsweetened apple juice.

With toast or dried bread most birds act like they're having a problem getting it down. Not sure why but they do.

I had seen it and honestly hadn't had a chance to look it over. I didn't know she was on seed until last minute. I'll go do that now!

Thanks a bunch!

EDIT: Okay... that looks easy enough and makes perfect sense. Because of all of the changes should I give her a few days with both offered just to make sure she gets a settle in time or would you recommend starting it right from day one? I have exactly ONE recorded weight for her which gives me very little to compare what her regular weight is so I'm a little tentative to mess with her diet for a couple of days until I have a baseline. LOL

How long have you had her? Is she just newly weaned? If she is just new to you but has been weaned a while, then I'd keep her on what she's used to till she's had a chance to settle in and get used to you. But if you've had her say a month, then I'd start in just as it describes. Keep a close eye on her weight don't let her drop more than a few grams.
