Lily was hatched on July 27, 2009 so she is nearly 10 weeks old
she was already DNA sexed with I got her because the breeder sexes them all.

I've only had her for about 2 days but I love her already smile.gif

She is such a character! I had a quaker before growing up because he didn't do much because we rescued him and Lily is so much different - she's like a typical baby lol.

She has a huge HQ flight cage that I got for an awesome deal - it's so big and filled with toys. her favorite toys are her "orbiter, rope toy" and her "boing." She is a bit awkward moving around the cage though, you can tell she's still learning. She seems so smart already too, she knows how to step up and will do it 90% of the time and it sounds like she tries to say "step up" but really only has the rhythm of the words right now.

She does do something that concerns me though...she does this thing with her head where whenever I pet her, pick her up or offer her a treat she shakes it almost like she's shaking her head "no" ad she makes this little chirping noise in the mean time. Is this normal? I know quakers so a "shake" as a baby, is this part of it?

She did it when I picked her out and the breeder said all of the chicks from that clutch were doing it. I picked Lily because as soon as I went into the room she was the only one to stop playing with the toys and waddle to the door cage to be let out.

I've never had a BABY quaker before, is there anything different I need to do for a baby than I would for an adult?

Thank you smile.gif and I'm so happy to be part of the forum.

*I'll attach some photos.
on the car ride home, she would scream in her carrier so i let her sleep on my shoulder the whole car ride home.

I never had a baby Quaker, either -- mine were both adults when they got me biggrin.gif -- but as far as the head shaking goes, Clyde does the "no" motion sometimes when I'm petting him and Jade does the "yes" motion, um, well, for everything. laugh.gif "Do you want a pumpkin seed?" Nod, nod, nod. "Are you a good girl?" nod, nod, nod. "Are you a BAD girl?" nod, nod, nod. "Did Daddy eat my last piece of dark chocolate?" nod, nod, nod. Some birdies just do it, I think. I figure it's leftover baby behavior and they sort of revert under certain stimuli.

Lily is certainly a doll and apparently already has you wrapped firmly round her toe. tongue.gif Might as well get used to it. None of us is immune. When I go shopping, I choose clothes based on what Clyde likes and doesn't like. I grew sweet potatoes in the garden this summer because I thought the birds would like them (Clyde does, Jade does not). It's ALL about THEM. wub.gif

Phew! smile.gif I was starting to think something was really wrong with her - because she does the little shake whenever I touch her or offer her a treat (which she will not take from me) what exactly does the "quaker shake" mean?

HAHAHA that's so cute smile.gif about the shopping / clothes.
jade and Clyde sound like such characters! with the nodding and such, It's so funny because I talk to Lily and tell her she's probably going to be demanding when she grows up because of how much I spoil her already!

Lily really does have me wrapped around her toe ALREADY after just 2 days, heck she had me as soon as I saw her and she stepped up on my finger! wub.gif
I'm defiantly not immune either hahaaa

The quaker shake is what baby quakers do when they want food, when they're getting fed, when they think they MIGHT be getting fed ... laugh.gif

They bounce up and down and flap their wings and bob their heads. Clyde does this when I snuggle him and Jade does it when she's demanding food she really likes, and both are adults. I guess they figure if it was cute when they were babies, it must still be cute. They're right, too ...

What a sweetie-pie. I haven't had a baby either. Pico was 4 when I got him.
LilyLover
Well she doesn't bounce up and down haha she just shakes her head. It's quite cute to watch either way smile.gif

I looked up quaker shaking in youtube to see what the whole shabang looked like and was so shocked! it's so much more than I thought it was haha.
