MY Qp's beak is cracked and peeling. The part that hangs down at a point has cracked, and started peeling off. Is this normal or should I go get her beak trimmed? There's still a layer underneith where it's peeling off if that makes sense. She's not in pain. I notice her chewing on everything and I think that why her beak is like this.
Any advice appreciated!

Yep completely normal , beak trims are not usually needed as they wear them down while chewing ...the only case is if there is a health problem and the beak is growing excessivly ..

My QP has had this problem off and on. I found it to be from not enough fat in his diet, so I switched him from Low-Fat Crumbles to the Maintenance. He also get's more seed-based treats than before. (Avi-cakes once a week, instead of once a month.)
The lack of humidity in my house didn't help, either. I try to keep it better now.

Whewww that scared me. I've heard of them peeling, and stuff but i've never seen it happen. When it cracked that did it for me, I was ready to take her to the avian vet. Luckily I waited, and she took care of it her self.
Thanks for everyone's reply, I appreciate it.
To the last poster. She came to me eating only Katies parrot seed mixture. It's been a real struggle getting her to eat anything else. I'm still not even close to wining this battle as the only thing she considers a treat is black seed, dried papaya & pineapple. I try to give her fresh foods, and she freaks out, acts like i'm going to beat her with it.

It can be difficult to convert from seed to a pelleted diet. I do know that a lack of vitamins can also make the beak problems worse! My little blue mutation parrotlet has to be on a seed-based diet (She eats El Paso Nuttriberries) because of the risk of liver falure in this mutation. The theory goes :: Because a parrotlet is so small they absorbed vitamins faster and Too Much is as bad as too little.
I wish more studies had been done, because her eating a seed-based diet bother's me.
My QP, and my cockatiel both eat pellets, and not seeds...
I do have one question though :: Have you tried the Mimic Conversion method? If your QP is Bonded to you, try pretending to eat the "Yummy" pellets. Ask your QP if she wants some too. Pretend at first that the pellet is so Yummy you won't share. That should make her want some even more.
