Full Version: Zoe Nipped/rubbed Or Otherwise Took Off The Tip Off Her Beak!

Zoe is our new Quaker. We haven't had her long. My daughter was holding her this afternoon when she got home and texted me that there was blood on her beak. I've gotten home and taken a look at it. Her beak was very long when we got her. It looks like she's taken the tip off somehow. There is no active bleeding. If I were to compare it to a toenail, I would have said had been well past the quick, but I don't know really how birds beaks function.

The beak doesn't look broken, but she let me gently hold her and lay her back to look underneath. The under side does look flat instead of sharp now. There is some dried blood so something happened. She now has a cuttle bone in her cage, her previous owners said she didn't use one so they didn't give her one (part of the reason I think her beak didn't have any attention). I can't imagine she just got out of control with it, but I don't see blood anywhere in the cage and there IS a decent divot in the cuttle bone now.

How much should I worry? She is still using her beak, to grab fingers and such (not to bite though...just gently to say 'keep petting me') so I can't say if she is acting sore yet or not.

Buddy took the tip off his beak once and although it wasn`t bleeding it was pretty sensitive for a few days he would only eat soft stuff...I am sure your littl ope will be o.k they usually wear their beaks down naturally chewing and such I don`t think its unusual for the tip to break as it gets pretty thin ..
Good luck and as long as he is still eating o.k there is probably nothing to worry about...
