My QP has a small patch above the nostrils where some feathers are gone and the skin is a little red. Should I put something on it such as neosporin? I don't want an exposed area to get infected. Thanks for any help, this is such a friendly forum smile.gif

Considering the area I would leave it alone but watch it. If it gets redder, changes such as swelling or doesn't seem to be clearing up I would call my avian vet.

I would say watch it for a day or two and try and figure out what's causing it. Is he rubbing against the bars of his cage or something like that? Or does he have moisture coming from his nares? Is he shaking his head a lot or scratching with his toes in that area? If you've answered yes to more than one of these questions, he needs to be seen by a vet as he may have a respiratory infection and need antibiotics.

Check him closely and see if there is any scrape marks, like he's rubbing it against something sharp in the cage.

It can't hurt to put a tiny dab on neosporin on it, but don't go crazy with it. a tiny tiny spot will be more than enough. Just make sure you don't get it in the nare or in his eyes.

Thank you. I haven't seen her mess with it at all, so I don't think it's bothering her. I'll keep an eye on it and look for the behaviors and symptoms you described. I appreciate the advice smile.gif
