Full Version: Quaker Looking For New Family
Quaker Parrot Forum > Avian Re-Homing > Member's Birds Needing New Homes
Way2Bizzy
I have a young female quaker who needs a new family of her own. She came to me (on temp basis) from someone who "had to get rid of her" quick and I would REALLY like for her to go to a new home with someone who is committed to making her a long-term member of the family.
Here's the basic information I have:
  • Green, female (has laid a single egg once- not recently), 3 yrs old next month
  • Was on an all seed diet, but has been eager to try every new thing I have offered (pellets, pasta, grains, veggies, etc). She shouldn't have a hard time switching to a pellet-based diet.
  • Has been with one owner since weaning- she used to get lots of attention and be a part of the family. Then she got too messy and noisy was relegated to a back room. She has not had daily out-of-cage time or been handled regularly in a while (don't know how long).
  • No known health problems, but has done some plucking around her neck and under wings. I think the plucking was due to boredom and isolation as there has been no sign of plucking since she has been here. New owner will need to watch closely to make sure she doesn't regress- and be willing & able to provide vet care and behavioral support if she starts again.
  • This is a VERY sweet, cuddly quaker- she loves to sit under my chin or right up next to my neck, loves scritches, wants to nuzzle (and lick) and preen all the time. She is also very hormonal, so her new owner needs to be careful to keep her from over-bonding. Also needs to be aware of how/ when/ where to handle/ pet her to avoid sexual stimulation and behavior problems that can stem from it.
  • She does not come with a cage, although I do have a spare one I could sell if it's needed.
If you can provide the right home for this young lady (and can pick her up in Monroe, NC) then let me know. Adults only, please- young owners are great, but at least one adult in the household has to be knowledgable, involved, and willing to take on long-term responsibility.

Thanks!

LOL!! NO!! Not me!! I have enough on my hands right now! Especially with 40 plus chickens on top of my parrots and handfeeding babies. I have a friend who has been waiting since last January for my lazy quakers to have babies. I know she really wants one, is home 24/7 on disability and would be able to give her a lot of love and attention. She was just asking me yesterday at the Morganton bird fair if I thought I would have babies anytime soon. LOL I know this little girl would have a loving home with her as well as a good vet check and good care.

Woohoo- it looks like the little green chicken is going home to her new mama this weekend. Not Von, but a friend of hers- which is wonderful because I know Von is picky about who takes her own babies so I trust her on this.
Thanks to all for the comments. We can't help them all, but every fid who finds her very own "right" place in this world is surely one who deserved it.
