My ear feels like it is going to fall off! You know when you have a kink in your neck and can't move without being in SO much pain? That is what I feel like right now. My mom set up an appointmetto go to the doctor, but the earliest they can get me in is tommorow at 2:15 pm. So I have to wait more than 24 hours with this stabbing pain in my ear. We think it is because I swim on a team, and were always goofing off trying to see who can touch the bottom of deep end- 12 foot of water- and my ears are REALLY sensitive. My mom'd friend suggested that I start putting some speacial drops in my ears after swimming each time.

I have 5 (human) kids and I, myself, am always getting hurt. I find that putting dry, raw rice in a clean sock and zapping it in a microwave for about 30 seconds until hot and holding it to the hurting area really helps. Good luck and I hope your get to feeling better.

That's what I do, too. I've never used it for pain in my ears, but I've used it just about everywhere else, including inside my mouth. I hope you feel better, soon!

You probably have an infection, and only a doctor can prescribe the medication you need.

But, I agree that putting drops in your ears after swimming is a good idea once you are better. You get them in pharmacies, like this one: http://about.pricegrabber.com/search_getpr...pediatrics&
Or you could try earplugs...
I used to get swimmer's ear often, I know how bad it can be. I hope you feel better soon.

Hydrogen Peroxide is a miracle worker. I suffer from constant ear infections, as an adult I have tubes.

A few things I do when I have a bad flare up- they even affect my jaw and neck!

First, I put HP in my ear- I just lay on the bed on my side. Drop it in and IF you do have infection it will bubble and fizz. Often, for quite some time. It doesn't hurt, but its kinda like having pop corn in your ear! When the fizzing stops, then I put some fresh garlic in olive oil and warm it up. WARM, just a bit warmer then room temp. Your skin there is very sensitive and can burn. I put that in.

Then, I will wave a blow dryer around my ear, that seems to help dry things up and take away the pain.

I will also take a good anti inflamatory. Personally, I use naturopathic only.

I find the peroxide is a miracle worker. As soon as I think I am getting an infection of ANY kind I do that. Even if its a sore throat and I think I am getting a cold. I haven't been sick and/or had a full blown infection requiring antibiotics in over 3 years, since I started this. My 4 year old daughter is never sick either!

I hope that helps give you some relief until you can see your doctor.

I too have used the Hydrogen Peroxide and it does sound like Rice Krispies going off in your ear wink.gif

Swimmers ear can be a real pain and it seems like if you get it, you're more susceptable to it again. I used to work at the YWCA when I was a kid and was in the pool a lot. After two ear infections, I also started taking a bit of rubbing alcohol and dropping a drop or two in each ear. It mixes with the water that might be in your ear and causes it to evaporate better.

Another trick we learned to help get the water out of our ears was to stand on one leg bent over at the hip and with your ear facing the floor give a hard kick with the foot that isn't on the floor, Kind of like a karate kick and this will help break any vacuum that takes place that keeps the water in your ear. It might take a couple times of bending over and raising that opposite leg to a 90 degree angle and kicking hard several more times.

In the mean time, Warm compresses under your jaw bone and on your ear and take some Ibuprofen to help with the pain.

Otits Externa or swimmers ears can be very painful and could lead to celluiltis of the ear. You will probably need antibiotics and try to keep the water out of the canal for a while. I hope you feel better soon.

Well, the doctor prescribed some ear drops and we just put them in. He said I probably shouldn't swim tonight, but.... I'm going to anyways. I'll be wearing an aer plug and my swiiming cap from now on (just like I should have done in the first place).
