I can't seem to find any specific info on this one, though it is included in a couple of bird mixes....
I put hemp hearts on my oatmeal in the morning - nice complex fiber, high in protein, omega stuff... you know, bird food. With Kiko trying to grow out all of those feathers I've been trying to get as much variety into her diet as I can. Anyone know if giving her a half a teaspoon of hemp hearts in her seed portion would be okay?

Heck ya, hemp seed is fine.
I actually bought some at a pet store in Germany when I was there. I've never been able to find hemp seed in the hull since then. I figure just the hearts take out half the fun.
Hemp hearts are obviously fine too. I would think half a teaspoon would be too much. I would say a small pinch would be more appropriate. Maybe every second day.

Hemp seeds are high in fat, and they used to be given to breeding pairs in the winter so they get a good layer of fat on them to protect them from the cold. (This is outdoor aviaries mind you.)
There is nothing Wrong with giving your pet birds Hemp in the winter. Our little QP's though need to watch the Fat so please remember this before you allow your's to have access to this in his/ her diet!
Post Script ~ I avoided the Direct question, as I am pretty certain that you know the "other" parts of the plant shouldn't be given to your birds! (After all they may get the munchies, and try to eat all the crisps & brownies in your house! LOL)

You can get unhulled hemp seeds here. I haven't ordered from this place yet, but it looks like a good site.
