Someone came over to our house the other day to buy my old laptop from me as my husband had just bought me a new one.
He was checking it over, and asking Q's about it, when he noticed Verde talking and so went over and asked if Verde was friendly.
I said yes, but he will probably bite if touched (because how many us would like to be touched by a strange person??) but the man ignored me and went ahead anyhow, and reached over Verde's head, telling him, "Why you making so much noise?"
And of course... got bit!
Well and then the man says to me" Omg! He bit me!" and was mad!
I said to Verde, "You ok? You didn't have to bite him honey" And Verde looks over at the man and said, "Get over it!"
My jaw dropped. I never taught him that!!

Yeah.... poor Verde! I have Kiko's cage as far across the room as I can get it from where my grooming clients come in. She can still see, she can be seen, but no one is within reaching or touching distance. It gets a little more difficult, however, when I'm trying to talk to the client and she's yelling "step UP! Good birrrrrrrrd.... pretty birrrrrrrd.... Kiko! Step UP!" at me. *sighs*

I have to be on Verde's side though this is the second complete stranger to disregard my warning in the past 2 wks. so I don't blame him. And then these people have the nerve to get mad!!

That I did.
Anyone know where I can get a "Attack Parrot" sign to hang over his cage to get the point across a little clearer to these people?

OMG that is so funny!!! I can't wait to tell that story! My Sweet Pea has never talked at all, I wish he would but at three years old I just don't know that it's ever going to happen. I love him just the same! Your story about Verde was just what I needed after a hard night's work and now I can go to bed with a smile on. That Verde is such a character....

Maybe something a little more to the point...
"Yes, I bite. Thank you."
For some silly reason as soon as you add the word "attack" to something everyone thinks you're being cute and joking.

I have an Attack Parrot sign and nobody believes it. My BIL was in town recently and said to me, "Which one does that refer to?" and when I told him BOTH, and possibly the budgies as well, he did just what your laptop buyer did. Walked right over to Jade and offered his hand and ... she bit him. I just said, "Told ya."

Jade bites US, why would she want a stranger (to her) sticking his hand in her face? Oy.

LOL, I got a good laugh out of that. Good for Verde, I'd have done the same if a stranger had got in my personal space and tried to touch me.

If you tell people the bird bites and then they put their fingers up and get bit IT'S THEIR OWN FAULT ... how dare they get mad because they got bit

They were warned! So yeah, I'd laugh too.
I took Isis to an outdoor party once (he was in a travel cage) and I told people NOT to put their fingers in the cage as he would bite ... what did one of the drunks do? Right, put his fingers in the cage and got bit. THEN, he did it again ... and got bit AGAIN!!

He acted all pissed off like it was my fault or the bird's fault. I told him off. I TOLD YOU NOT TO TRY TO TOUCH HIM BECAUSE HE WILL BITE YOU, YOU MORON!! Did I feel sorry for him? Not on your life! After that, he didn't try to put his fingers in the cage. Gee, I wonder why

*wicked grin* Well, the bird biting him obviously wasn't enough incentive. Maybe he didn't like being called a moron and went to play in the OTHER sandbox! We had an amazon at the pet store when I was working there as a kid that would answer his own question... people were constantly asking if he bit and most times before we could answer he would yell from his cage "YES! OUCH! He bites HARD!" He wasn't a MEAN bird... he was just an amazon that didn't like being handled.
This is the same bird someone taught the response to "Can he talk?" - another one of those questions you get about a zillion times a day. He'd fluff himself up, looking all coy, and say very clearly: "I can talk. Can you fly?" And then bask in the worship and awe.

Actually, I do!! I'm not sure how expensive they are, but the next time I'm in that particular pet shop I'll find out!!!!
