Does anyone currently have a cozy hut or something of that sort in their QP's home? Are they safe for birds? Any problems with them?

Majj
Many here have them for their fids to sleep in , I use to have a nesting box but it was chewed and messy to clean so I swapped for a Jolly ball hard plastic easy to wash and the boys can`t chew it....or a PVC Pipe could be used I had both for a while but now have the PVC Pipe in their travel/emegency cages... smile.gif

I have one for Sammy and she loves it so much. I think you just have to look out for any fraying and just make sure it stays in good condition.

I originally purchase the happy hut tent and pugsly chewed off one of the hanger ropes, grrr.

Then I found a snuggle tent with a pirch, so no droppings to worry about cleaning on it! YAY! It took him several months to finally use it and get on the pirch, for awhile he would just sleep next to it, but now that he's figured it out, he sleeps there every night! I am so pleased he is finally using it now, even if does perch in it backwards and almost upside down, lol.

I have one of these in each of my cages.

Frost plays in hers during the day, dragging toys in there, and sleeps next to it at night but not in it.

Virgil sleeps in his.

The budgies just play in theirs.

Clyde has one and sleeps in it every night. He hated it at first and wouldn't go near it and now, when I occasionally take it out for a washing, he gets very, very angry at me. laugh.gif I put a "blankie" (a washcloth) in it to catch poop so I don't have to wash it much; I just change the washcloth and wash IT.

Jade has a snuggy ring (it's a circular swing lined with cotton rope which she has chewed to shreds) and she likes it and sleeps in it, so I didn't get her a happy hut. She's got so much stuff in her cage now that I think it would make it kind of crowded, and she most definitely would object if I tried to remove any of her things that are there now to make room. Although now I'm thinking I'm a bad mommy for not giving her one since everyone else has one ...

The budgies have a happy hut, too, but they don't sleep in it. Benjy sometimes runs through it like it's a tunnel and somebody goes in there and poops, but they sleep on perches.

Little Max has a hut but, doesn't pay his any mind. I have been putting a balled up wool glove in this large plastic bowl that he has started squatting on instead of grasping his perches, lifting one leg and doing his balancing act to sleep.

Gordon has one, but he doesn't sleep in it. He does run through it several times a day. I think he's trying to figure out the "peek-a-bird" game.

They are safe enough IF you take the tine to keep all the loose strings and stuff cut off

Santana sleeps in his. The problem is it has to be a specific kind. I bought him one with a fleece lining and he slept next to it but never in it. The stores by me stopped carrying the one he likes so I ordered one online - and wouldn't you know of all the great companies online I chose one that never responded to my order and had to dispute the cost with paypal. I even e-mailed them and told them it was a "sleep hut emergency" and they never responded. I did get one from another online company.

The other thing he does with it is stick his head in it and practice his new words - it's hilarious!

Look what BO does to a happy hut. Kiwi takes good care of hers and even cleans out all the crumbs when she uses it for a restaurant. Then she sleeps in it at night and loves it. She won't let anyone touch it. It's HERS!
BUT, after a week or so with BO, it's in tiny pieces in the bottom of her cage! And here's a picture of how much Bo loved her jolly ball and then what she did to it!

I made one out of one of the coffee jugs and Sea goes in all the time. I'm about to make her a new one with fleece to add more warmth to it. I had a happy hut and she wouldn't sleep in it so I opened it up and put it all around the coffee jug so the whole jug was encased in it inside and out.
She loves going inside things- she has a big cardboard tube on top of the cage too and practices her talking in both of them.
