I know this might be a simple question for most people, but I am totally confused.
I am trying to find out the exact breed and species of this parrot. If you could help, I would appreciate it!
Thanks so much,
JA

To me it reminds me of an amazon...I'm not sure--but I'm sure you'll get your answer from some of the bird experts....

Thanks Julie for your response.
The only problem with Amazons is I haven't seen one with that large of bare skin areas around the eyes!!!??? You might be correct. Like I said ~ I need help.

This bird is a mini macaw. As far as the specific specie --- I am leaning towards a duskie miniature macaw! (I will need to do more research to be certain though.)

I am almost positive this bird is an Illiger's Macaw.

It is a mini macaw...notice the bare eye patches It is probably a Hahns or a Illigers. Hahns are the smallest Mini Macaw, Illigers are considered small to medium for a mini macaw.
The photo you show looks like an immature Illigers.
My favorite Mini Macaw for temperament is a yellow collar
Mini Macaws have all the characteristics of a large macaw just in a small body. Some have much better temperaments than others...Do your homework first before getting one!

I don't believe it is a hahns macaw, because it doesn't have the red "shoulder." Do all hahns have red shoulders?

Depends on how old it is...the more mature they are the more color they have. I think the photo is of an Illigers though.

Here is more info I received today:
She is about 15 to 17 inches from head to tail ~ she has a red under belly between her legs & red just over the beak which is black as are her eyes which are ringed by light gray ~ her tail has blue feathers as does the undersides of her wings ~ her legs are also about the same shade as her ring around her eyes.

I thought she might be an Illigers Macaw also, but I read where they were endangered, so I discounted that idea. Are they an endangered species?
Thanks so much to everyone that is trying to help. I knew I could count on ya'll

Yes, that definately looks like an Illigers macaw to me. I don't know if they are endangered, but they are expensive. A handfed baby around here sells for anything between $2000 to $2500.

Yup, its an Illigers and they may be endangered in their native country, but any you get here in the states are pretty much breeder raised now. As far as cost goes, here in the states they'll run anywhere from $900.00 to $1100.00

Thanks guys. The owners were telling me they weren't sure what kind of macaw she is, but they think she is a Hahn's. I didn't think she looked too much like a Hahn's, that is why I came to ya'll. Thanks to everyone who responded,

A Hahns is Much Much smaller than an Illigers.
