Hello,

I got some Vetafarm pellets for Kooky and the moment I put them in the cage she went nuts about them straight away and wouldn't stop eating them. I thought sweet, I won't have to go through all the trouble of converting her. So I took the seeds out and only offered them a few times a day just in case if she still wanted them.
Her enthusiasm didn't last long and now she would starve herself until the seeds are available. She would look at the pellets but won't touch them anymore. At the beginning she ate them from my hand as well but now she just drops them whenever I offer them to her.
True I didn't go through the whole conversion process properly as I thought she loves the pellets. So what would be best to do? Start again or keep on offering seeds only 2 times a day until she realizes that pellets are there? I even offer them in the same bowl and in the same place as pellets so she would know they are food.
And please don't suggest to change the type of pellets lol. Here in New Zealand I struggled to get even those I use now as the only one that's available in shops seems to be Kaytee which I consider too artificial.

Thanks for any advice!

I know your rescources are limited and not sure if this will help, but here goes:

I only feed my guy once a day, first thing in the morning. He gets a variety of foods, so he eats what he wants, when he wants, but unless he is getting a special treat, he knows I won't refill cups til the next day. When I was getting him used to pellets, I would sprinkle a little white millet over them to get him interested. Also to carefully monitor whether the pellets get eaten, only put enough to line the bottom of the dish and it will be easier to see if they are disappearing. I also offer fresh and frozen veggies/fruits to add to the variety and trying new things. Maybe you could try putting a few treats/pellets in a small paper cup and folding closed so she has to find the pellet goody inside. I also cook with the pellets in my birdie muffin mix. You can maybe also try offering the pellets different ways, such as plain, soaked in juice, blended with fresh fruits, sprinkled with a few seeds, etc.

It may be that she knows you will bring the seeds(her favorite)twice a day, and just waits for them.

Good luck!! Maybe someone else will have better suggestions unsure.gif
