Mr. Pickles was doing great when I went to work in the morning, talking, eating, everything was great!

I came home from work and he was on the bottom of the cage barely breathing and gasping for air. I tried to pick him up to go immediately to the vet. He would not let me touch him, within about two minutes he gasped for air and then fell over and died. I AM SO UPSET. He had the best of care, a huge cage, tons of love toys, talked up a storm and he was so spoiled.

I took him to his avian vet and they did a necropsy on him. I found out he is a SHE.. I had no idea.

Also, she died from inflammed intestines and a large liver. The dr. asked if we had snakes or lizards? i said UM NO why he said she had a bacterica infection like E coli. I have no idea where she would have gotten this>

Could she have gotten in from her poop?

I am so heartbroken. The house is just not the same without her.

There have been many recalls over the past few years due to e coli. If I remember right there was a recall on spinach a couple of years ago.

All that Mr. Pickles ate was Nutraberries, Zupreem harvest feast and cheese as a snack and bread. he did not like vegetables at all.

OMG that is so very sad , I know how upset you must be sending you hugs from across the miles ...sometimes we just don`t ever know the answers.....
I wish I could say something to help but I know that nothing helps the pain except maybe knowing all us fid lovers here do understand your tears...

Very sad when our animal friends leave us so suddenly. Mr. Pickles is soaring free like an eagle now which I think most of little friends actually believe they are. I offer you my heartfelt condolences.

E-coli can easily be pased through foods. Its always possible for it to be passed onto food by contact with hands or other surfaces food is prepared on.
