My mouse tears newspaper up to stuff his house and his treehouse with, but Humphrey hasn't made any effort to tear up newspaper, so that's why I gave him TP. I was going to buy him that commercial bedding until I saw a post on the hamster forum (yes, there's one for hamsters, LOL) that someone's hamster had EATEN some of his fluffy bedding and was trying to poop it out and it got stuck and they had to take him to the vet. ACK!

NO fluffy bedding for Humphrey. We have lots of TP and paper towels and when it gets chilly, I'll give him a sock like Henry has. I keep thinking when he gets a little older, he'll figure out the tearing-up-newspaper thing.

If you don't mind could you PM me a link to the hamster forum? I'd like to see it. The vet once told me that the traditional wood bedding wasn't good for my hamster. The recycled newspaper bedding was better. Or you could send some newspaper through the shredder and make your own. I'm sure you have lots of newspaper around for the birds but I don't know if it would be enough to share between them. And then again, go with whatever they recommend on your hamster forum! That was just one vet's opinion and as I've learned on here it is much better to get a census of opinions from experienced pet owners and breeders. I guess there is a forum for everything. I want one for cats. Not purebreds, just....cats. lol. I don't have fancy babies. Just a couple of rescues. Anyhow, congrats on the newest addition. I'm excited to hear more updates. Is he already hand tame? I don't know if I was lucky or what but all the hamsters I had were very good and hand tame even though they came from pet stores. Except the dwarf, they're cute but oh so nippy.
