Full Version: I've Got A Quaker Stuffed Into Her Water Dish

With Kiko's feathers growing back, I'd been misting her every couple of days to help with the pins and to get some aloe onto her skin. I was just handing a client out the door, turned around, and she's got her head stuffed into her water dish. Now, I was told she HATED water. She's refused all offers to bowl bath both here and at the foster home who tried for three months (and eventually ended up taking her into the shower because she was getting so ratty looking). Now she's sitting on her branch perch next to me with a soaking wet head and dry everything else.

Maybe my quaker isn't broken? *wicked grin*

Here are a couple of pictures of her new feathers... I wasn't fast enough with the camera to catch her in the bowl.

Her back is almost green again!

The new chest feathers... she looks scruffier now partially feathered then she did with only down!

Looking good! Can't wait for the fully-feathered photos that I'm sure will be forthcoming soon! biggrin.gif

Max won't take a bath by himself. I have to take him to the sink and spray him, or he showers with my husand.

But as sure as I clean his cage, put down dry paper and a bowl of clean drinking water, his head goes right in and splashes until the new dry paper is wet. ohmy.gif Go figure.

JoJo love his' baths will take one almost every day.

She's not broken, she just needed to find the right person! Good job!! You should try something like a glass pie plate to bath in.

I really think quakers pick who they want to be with from the start. Racal was in a cage with about 25 other quakers the seller had an extreamly tame quaker sitting out and the others were in a cage most were chewing on a fresh corn cob, racal climbed away from the crowd and stared at me that was the end the man said don't you want the one your holding i think he likes you. i said no i want the one staring at me. So i think your baby well we know your baby picked you to trust and love and bring back to beautiful baby she is congratulations.P>SS sorry for the length

I've got a feather protector all ready to go but I haven't put it on her at this point. As long as she's leaving them in I don't want to rock the boat. I am noticing that the few feathers she had from before are colour stripped really badly and she's snipped a few of them off partway but I'm going to see how she does with the new ones. She might have just OVER cleaned the couple she had trying to make them cover the naked bits properly. The older feathers are also "seed grown" so to speak, where the new ones are mostly "fresh and pellet" grown. Hopefully that means a slightly healthier feather.
