My 3 budgies weren't working out so well, there was one poor little guy who was always on the out. Today we went and got a 4th from the rescue, since he came from the same place they are all in quarantine together and seem to be doing great! No big fights so far anyway. He is green an yellow, he still needs a name.
Siobhan
Budgies do tend to pair off and "give the business," as my mother always called it, to poor No. 3. And besides, with budgies it's "the more, the merrier"! So the new guy is the standard green and yellow budgie? Is he a boy? How about Buddy, since he's No. 3's new little friend?
Sandi Kiwis Mom
I agree with Siobhan.....now your going to have lots of chitter chatter. What does Quincy think?
Quincy's Slave
I think he's standard issue, I have to try and get a picture of him but he's pretty scared. I can actually see the white of his eye which probably isn't a good thing.

So Quincy hasn't reacted too much, he's listening to them for sure but that's about it.

Most flock animals need to be in even number groups or the odd one out gets singled out and picked on.

Congrats Catherine on your newest addition.

I had a couple of budgies (before Kiwi) I absolutely loved their little sounds.....One budgie was tame and he loved to ride on my shoulder. He talked and said his name....he was so spoiled rolleyes.gif

Hopefully the new guy will balance things out and they'll all be happy! smile.gif Looking forward to pics! smile.gif

Meet Dexter!

equineRtist
Oh, Dexter is a beauty and a lucky boy!!!! Congrats!
Siobhan
Ooh, he's not standard issue, he's FANCY. Standard issue green/yellow is like Bonnie (see my sig). He's mighty purty! biggrin.gif

GRRR so now my new budgie is picking on poor little Skye too!!! Adding a 4th did not help anything at all, it's 3 against 1! I might have to get another cage and separate the little jerks. So ticked. I don't want a lot of cages around the house AND I spent $200 on the cage I do have.

Casey's Mom
That's too bad, maybe she'll learn to like Skye in time, I hope they can all work things out, and Skye isn't bothered too much.
Siobhan
Are you trying to have all four in the same cage? That's probably the problem. They may be having territory issues or arguing about food and water. Are there several food and water dispensers? You usually need one of each per budgie, even if they get along, to avoid potential arguments. My two are best buddies, but they still have squabbles, so they have two food dishes and two water dishes just in case.

Try putting them two in one cage and two in another, and if poor little Skye is still getting picked on, but the other three are getting along, then give her a cage of her own and let the three live together if they can. Budgies generally are happier with a roomie, but it's not absolutely necessary, and Skye in her own cage could still be within sight and hearing of the others for company. A single budgie wouldn't need as big a cage, either, and you could get something suitable for $40 or so, or maybe find someone on Craigslist or Freecycle who could give you one.

It's also possible they're still working out their pecking order and not having serious fights at all. Budgies do get into spats, and they squawk like crazy and argue amongst themselves and the next thing you know, they're preening each other and all is forgiven. If no one's getting hurt, that may be all they're doing.

omgosh!!!! He's gorgeous, Catherine!!! I just adore Budgies...but their constant chatter drives me nuts...lol

Sorry that it didn't work out...maybe it is just going to take some time?
Quincy's Slave
Well I have 3 food dishes and 2 water. When I give them their greens I'm doing 2 - 3 clips so there's more for everyone. It just seems like wherever Skye is, that's there the others want to be. The cage is 30x18x38 so there should be room for everyone. I'm going to give it a bit more time to see if they sort it out but it sure make me sad.
