Anyway, I had next to nothing to go on. Just out of the blue, nothing new in the environment, no diet changes, no new birds etc. I did ramp up the humidifyer, and that may have exacerbated things, but it turns out he has a bacterial and slight yeast infection in his sinuses.
The vet said his nares were all plugged up and she extracted several gobs of goop (yuk) from his sinuses. Then she irrigated his sinus with saline got him clean as a whistle (he really did). Vet said it looked like it had been impacted for a while, likely from before I adopted him. He is on antibiotic and an anti-fungal meds for two weeks, then he goes back for a checkup.
I think for the diagnosis and treatment $145 was excellent. Although I wish they had noticed this when he was in for a check 2 months ago. Grrrr.
Man, these guys hide illness really well. He was happy and seemed perfectly healthy till he started losing feathers. His condition just got to a point where he couldn't hide it. There was no swelling, discharge or discolouration at all.
BTW, he was so easy to treat. Noting bothers this guy. A perfect patient.
Maya remains as healthy as a spider monkey after 12 cups of coffee.
