Uncle Zippy
I had cleaned out the cages and had put all the toys and perches in the dishwasher and was working on a rope perch that was badly chewed. I use a knife to cut off the chewed up section and then re-glue the hardware. Knife slipped and I sliced off a nice chunk of fingertip, leaving only a flap hanging. I wrapped it in gauze and got it to stop bleeding long enough to get cages put back together. Priorities. I had to get the cages back in order. LOL

After the fids were put away I unwrapped the bandage and it gushed right away. I made a trip to several clinics till I found one that was open and didn't have a line-up out the door of people who think they have swine flu. I still had to sit through 45 minutes of swine line to get in and get my stiches. Still better than the 4 hours I probably would have waited at emerg.

People are freaking out about H1N1. It's nuts. Perfectly healthy people wasting time and resourses cause they sneezed. dry.gif I blame the media (of which I am a part unfortunately). It's just embarassing to watch. Are people that easily frightened? Geez!

I'm just glad my internal fluids have stopped leaking.

Ouch! blink.gif I hope your finger heals quickly, Ron! And I definitely agree, people are freaking out, it's craziness out there! wacko.gif

Feel better!
Jeepingchick
owie owie owie!!! heal up fast!!

and i agree about H1N1!!! i work in a clinic and if i hear one more person with the sniffles say "I GOT H1N1!!!!!!!!" I think i may scream! Im just starting to get over pnuemonia right now, and when i cough in public (even tho i do cover with my arm) you should see the people start to shy away!! its to freaking funny!

I'm just getting over flu (regular flu) after two weeks of really being sick and one of just feeling like a truck ran over me, and I couldn't afford to take any days off work. I was very careful about covering my mouth and washing my hands and all that, but my co-workers did NOT want me around. Unfortunately, the boss DID. I'm also in the media, and deadlines and board meetings keep going in spite of one reporter's flu.

I hope that finger doesn't cause you much pain. I did that once and was miserable and couldn't sleep or anything.

Sheesh.. you'd have been front-lined with over coughers here. Bleeding takes priority over coughing. That and small children and head wounds, I think.

Move closer, Uncle Zippy! We'll take care of you! Well.... as long as they don't castrate the health system again. *wicked grin*

Next time you decide to chop you finger grab cayenne pepper and pour it on it will stop the bleeding straight away it kinda nets the skin back together very good stuff. The swine flu is a big thing if you have any underlining illness if not its not to bad i had it makes you feel like poo not nice .just incase get some echinae force to build your immune system so you don't get to sick. Now this info will cost you $1000 i shall expect a cheque in post lol hehe smile.gif
Andie's Mom
Well you big clutz Ron! Invest in a new pair of scissors and you won't have that kind of thing happen As for the H1N1 you new type really do cause a lot of trouble! But we've had at least 5 deaths directly related to it here in Spokane alone One was a very close friend to ny brother he was only 51 but he did have underlying health issues It's serious stuff; but not as bad as the news is saying it is!

Ya just had to play "OH OH OUCH!" didn't ya? Well, I hope your ouchie heals fast.
I know that some die from "Swiney" flu, but some die from other nasty flus too, so not much to do but take the Vitamin C and Zinc as soon as you feel the symptoms. Taken soon enough, you'll never have any thing even kin to it!
Now don't be playing with knives!
Carrie~Anne
Glad it wasn't more serious...a finger one can do without!!

I hear you about the swine flu. It's just ridiculous. Granted, I think there are a lot of people that have reason to worry, but for the majority of us, it's just like the regular flu.

Just be careful with echinacea if you're on the birth control pill for the purpose of birth control! I'm not sure of the medical specifics, but Echinacea COUNTERACTS the effective ingredient that makes the Pill work! (This is how I ended up pregnant with my second son... LOL This is NOT a myth!)

Not that you're necessarily on the Pill, Uncle Zippy. Just thought I'd toss that in there for those reading who might be....

Glad to hear you got it treated and hope it heals fast!

I have to agree about the H1N1 "scare." People should be cautious because it is serious, but everyone seems to be running around in panic. There is a difference between being cautious and being irrational. Just because you have a cough, doesn't mean you need to immediately run to the doctor.

I actually just got back from a flu shot clinic getting the vaccine. In Ontario they are making sure ONLY high priority people get the shot first. My mom is immunocompromised and I have bad asthma, so it was highly recommended we got it. You should see some of the people lined up to get the shot. They have no underlying medical conditions and are waiting 7 hours in line to get the shot, only to be told at the end they cannot get it. I find it very hard to see these healthy "not at risk" people hold up those who are at high risk. I personally think it is a very selfish thing to do. If I wasn't "high risk" I don't even think I would get the shot. I have never gotten the normal flu shot in my life, and I have never had the actual flu.

Anyways, I think people should take certain percautions (coughing into bend in arm, washing hand ect.) but I don't think there is any need for all this hype. JMHO

Hehe doubt he'll get pregs smile.gif . Most herbal meds counteracts the pill it says so in the leaflets you get with always read the leaflets hehe

Okay....pardon my ignorance, but I don't understand something....why is it better to sneeze or cough in your shirt, rather than your hand when it's so much easier to quickly wash your hands then your shirt?? If there's a sink nearby, you can wash your hands...but unless there's a washing machine near and you have a change of clothes it's hard to clean your shirt.....I'm just curious........I always sneeze/cough in my hands, then wash them right away, or use my hand sanitizer.

Swine Flu, H1N1, and many others are definitely something to keep in mind!!, but I agree with the masses, the general public has gone a little over board.

$1000 for this advice, I don.t think that's allowed in general talk. (send him a PM, and demand payment!)

The fids first!!! Absolutely!!!!! Cayenne Pepper????? No, Just Cut Me Again!!!!!!

But you may have saved a lot of driving time, and blood loss, by remembering "Crazy -Glue" was invented for scarless surgery.

"A Dull Knife Is A Dangerous Knife"

Uncle Zippy, until you (or every body else) get over that cough, and sharpen your knives, stay away from them!!!
Andie's Mom
Dani coughing into your sleeve helps because you aren't as likely to touch sonething with the inside of your elbow as you are with your hands before you can go wash it===especially if you are away fron(13th letter) and are pushing sonething like a shopping cart etc+++and little kids don't think to run and wash their hands when they're out on the play ground or playing with a toy that soneone else is going to be playing with right away+++so by coughing into their sleeve is a good alternative

Thanks, Connie! I'll start doing that, instead of coughing into my hands and then running to the nearest sink! smile.gif

The attending Dr. said the medical version of crazy glue wouldn't have worked in my case. Plus no way I'm gonna use real crazy glue on a cut, no matter what it was designed for 40 odd years ago. wacko.gif I'll take the sutures, thank you very much.

I do need to stay away from knives, cause I have a need to keep them super sharp, and I'm a clutz. Bad combo.
Jen_and_spiggy
Or you could just use hand sanitizer smile.gif
