Today I watched my baby boy Beau eat a plastic bag. I was trying to get it away from him but it didn't work. He started choking on it and I did what I could and he finally worked it down. I called the vet and she told me to bring him in immediately. Since cats don't usually eat strange things they don't usually have to make cats throw up. She gave him two rounds of hydrogen peroxide and he still wouldn't throw up. So 2 hours and $200 later he still has the plastic bag in his belly and now he's sick from the hydrogen peroxide. Just not throwing up sick. Now I just have to cross my fingers and wait. The vet told me to watch the litter box, watch for vomiting and watch his appetite. So I'm just waiting. Beau is my baby boy and I am so worried about him. I can't get him interested in any food, which is normally his favorite thing.
So please just keep Beau in your mind. He looks so pathetic. I just want him to feel better. Right now he's laying on the couch with his little head resting on his paws. I'm about to try and get some sleep, but I don't know how well I'm gonna rest knowing he's not ok right now. I've had to start giving him medicine to coat his tummy so all the hydrogen peroxide won't hurt him. Please just keep him in your prayers. I know most of y'all are "bird people" but a lot of you have other pets as well. So you can understand how important he is to me. Thanks y'all.

Oh, I'll be thinking of you and your special cat.
I don't own other pets, but I have been to the vet with friends when they had theirs treated. Pets are members of the family...
let us know what happens.

We rescued a stray that seems to have a plastic fetish - I have to make sure the garbage bags on the cans are pulled tight or she sits there and gnaws pieces off of them. *blinks* I have no clue why they think they need to swallow something like that!!
Crossing fingers that everything comes out one way or another.

Poor Beau. Little one has no idea

I can sympathize as my female cat likes to eat things she is not supposed to as well. Last year she scared me half to death when she was caught chomping on my roommates easter lilly. Luckily I caught her and gave her the good ol' hydrogen peroxide treatment and she vomited it all up immediately. Then was happy to have a bowl of milk afterward. Stinker.
2 weeks ago she ate a 2 ft string off my robe when I wasn't watching and i still haven't seen it in the cat box yet! Her vet gave me some canned r/d, which is high fiber, told me to give laxatone and watch her for changes. So far, nothing! I'm still worried about it getting caught up in her and needing emergency surgery. Hopefully, I just missed it in the box.
Best of luck with your naughty kitty! I'll say a prayer he passes it soon! How stressful.

Why in the heck didnt they sedate her and run a gastric tube down to try to remove it? In the time window of the vomiting trick, it may have been possible to remove it endoscopically. Did they even do an Xray to see if they could spot it? Hopefully this will not cause a blockage in the intestinal tract. That is going to be your biggest worry over the next few days. If he doesnt start eating - you will need to take him back to the vet. Ditto if no stool is passed. (The other worry is that some plastics do contain chemicals that could have adverse reactions and kitties are much more prone to that than dogs.)
I am going to recommend feeding canned pumpkin - this will help with moving things through the digestive tract.
I really do hope your kitty will be ok. This is normally a stunt a puppy would do. However, I have now had two cats that have this obsession with licking plastic bags (its definitely got to be a siamese thing too..).

UPDATE:
Well, the good new is Beau passed the bag! String still in it even. I found it in the litter box today, and I must say that is the most excited I have ever been about something in the litter box. The vet gave me some medicine to help coat his stomach and some Cat Lax. So I guess the combination of that and nature finally took its course and he passed it! It makes the vet visit worth every penny knowing that my baby is ok. But it sure did hurt to write that check when we were leaving the vet's office in worse shape than we got there in. So thank you all for your well wishes. I am so very grateful that he is ok. He's back to his old self, the little loveable furball that I can't imagine living without. And I know he's better because his sister and he are very in tune and she's been extra gentle with him since the incident but is back to beating up on him and rolling around in the floor.
Thanks again.

Glad Beau finally passed the bag (geez that sounds weird) without any other complications. I can't imagine it was very COMFORTABLE trying to get THAt out, though

(Think painful hemorroid

)
I hope this will keep him from trying to eat any more non-food items in his path!
