So for awhile now Ive been thinking and planning on my next fid. I wanted a blue quaker but they are just too noisy for my house. If I am to get another fid its need to be quiet (like Yoshi my GCC)
What are some species that are known for they quietness? Some people have suggested a Senegal and a Parrotlet. Senegal might not be a possability, but parrotlet is being considered so is a budgie.
Any suggestions are welcomed and greatly appreciated

also any experience with fids that are quiet would be great!

Thanks !!

I wouldn't say budgies are quiet. They chirp and sing and twitter, but mostly it's a pleasant chirping and if you like their noise (I love it), it won't bother you a bit. They do have squawky fits where they do "mad budgie" for a few minutes at a time. My Quakers aren't noisy at all except when they do the Morning Squawk and that only lasts for 10 or 15 minutes. Otherwise, they just talk or whistle or, like now, are as quiet as little mice. So are the budgies, at the moment. None of them makes noise constantly.

Its the loud squawks from Cosmo that are too much too handle.. When there is a lot of noise coming from like the tv or something he tries to compete with it. I LOVE little budgie chirps

Parrotlets are not noisy, but the ones I have been around have had attitude. I don't know if they are all like that though. Linnies are also great and do not chatter a lot like budgies do. Budgies canbe quite fun and entertaining, but I found my 2 to be messier than any other bird I have owned. My cockatiels were never noisy, and were awsome companions. Although senegals are not generally noisy, they get into "fits" a couple times a day and have a high pitched "nails dow the chalkboard" screech. It doesn't last long, but it can be bothersome. I would probably say linnie or cockatiel.

I have a senegal. She's really quiet. In fact, all 4 of my birds are pretty quiet. My vet cracks up when she calls me and she can't hear the birds. Part of it is just based on the personality of the bird.

Parrotlets are quieter than budgies I'd say. With my 4 little budgies, they can really get going when they want to. A lot of parrotlets do have big attitudes but they are so adorable

I am going to do a little research on the pionus (I LOVE the coloring of white capped Pionus!) and the linnies. Im not too familiar with "linnies"... when you say liniie is that short for linius?

Hi Zach,
I completely forgot to mention the Pionus parrots! They're fabulous parrots! I don't have personal experience with them, but the breeder I knew very well several years ago had them. They're generally quiet, and they really don't bite, if they don't want to hang out they will turn their back on you. LOL When they're scared they make a wheezing sound.
Linnie is short for Lineolated Parakeet. I don't know anything about them.

Good luck!!

Honostly a Pionus sounds perfect for me!! A white capped runs around $200 from what Ive gathered. And since I have school and other activities going on having a 3rd fid thats content just sitting on his cage or playground would be wonderful. They seem really sweet, and they dont seem to be too much bigger then Cosmo. I think play time together would be very possible. One thing I need to find out is a suitable cage size.
Thaks everyone for all yuor advice and help!

and anymore would still be great

I'm not sure about the White-Capped, but I think they're heavier than Quakers...not really longer, but bulkier.
Cage size, I'd say 24x24 maybe.....that's my best guess.

I have a quaker and and green cheeked conure....out of both of those I would say the my quaker is the loudest. Gidget, my green cheek, when she talks, she talks in a gravelly voice....but when Kiwi & Gidget get going, it is loud!

I have heard that all the poicephalis parrots (Senegals, Jardines, Myers) are known to be quiet.
Small conures like the GCC are quiet as well.
My birds are fairly quiet and no one belives me. My Sun Conure is very quiet compared to most Suns and my Quaker is not a screamer so I lucked out. They do make nose but nowt for long intervals.
So I lucked out.

*grins* I'd say that's not luck - You're obviously doing something right! In the wild birds make noise but not necessarily for long intervals unless there's something wrong they're reporting or they're doing the standard flock calling. Most caged birds are louder than their non-caged counterparts because they're inadvertantly trained to make noise OR their bored out of their little avian minds.
And the one thing no one has specified yet on this thread... what do you consider "a little" noise from a bird? Does talking count? How about whistling? Imitating other sounds? Practise chatter? Toy banging?

Linnies....short for Lineolated Parakeet are fairly quiet birds, but, like any bird, can make their own noises. No squawking though with these little guys. I had two and they are SO much fun. About the same size as a budgie, but slightly smaller. They can learn to talk too and are usually very sociable with strangers.

Cacophony -- By little noise I mean not the loud squawks and flock calls a quaker can let out.
I dont think Cosmo does this out of bordome, but just competing with the other noise of the house and flock calling to Yoshi.

I have a maroon belly conure, and while she has her moments, she is a pretty quiet bird, especially compared to my quaker. She does chatter and talk, and even scream once in a great while, but it's all done at a very tolerable volume. My parents have a green cheek, and I have to say my maroon belly seems to be lots quieter than him

I have had my yellow sided green cheek conure for a week today, and she is quiet. She makes little noises, but I think she is just so little she just doesn't have much volume.
She has twice made a loud noise like a whistle kind of,, I dont' know what it is, but it is very short,, I think she scares herself when she does it!
i just adore her, so I would recommend a Green cheek, of any variety. I had to have a pretty quiet bird because not only is my quaker really quiet, because he was abused, but we need a quiet house because my daughter does her office work, including phone calls, from home.
Too much tweeting and screeching would be unprofessional!
