Alex's Diary - The First Year

by Shelly Lane

At the time I brought home my first Quaker Parrot, it was difficult to find much information about them. I wanted to know more than just the typical general info - I wanted to know details about what they were like to live with. This lack of information is what led me to create the diary of stories you're about to read.

Alex was my first Quaker and came to live with us in 1995. Here are some stories from her first year. It's in a diary format, and the stories come from the ones I've posted to the Quaker Parakeet Mailing List.

For those of you who live with Quakers, hopefully these stories will make you laugh and remind you of the crazy things your Quaker says and does. For anyone who is thinking about adding a Quaker to their life, it will give you a good idea of what it means to live with one of these little green rascals and also how quickly and easily they can pick up words and phrases.

I hope you enjoy these stories about Alex. Quaker Parrots are fun and feisty pets, and I think this collection of stories does a good job of showing what the true Quaker personality is really like.
