Singing Parrots - Songs Your Bird Will Love
|
by Shelly Lane Many parrots enjoy listening to music and songs, and some even learn to sing themselves. Quakers in particular seem to really like music, and while they are not known for being great singers, it is not too difficult to teach them to sing. Here are some simple songs that you can sing to your own bird. |
I recently wrote about a parrot that liked hearing songs with her name in it and suggested that you try singing some songs to your bird. My birds love hearing songs with their names, and some of them can even sing all or parts of some of these songs. Of course, you should insert your parrot's name where appropriate. Enjoy!
To the tune of Bingo:
There was a little Quaker Bird and Gator was his name-o,
G-A-T-O-R,
G-A-T-O-R,
G-A-T-O-R,
And Gator was his name-o.
To the tune of You Are My Sunshine:
You are my Kaylee, my only Kaylee
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear how much I love you
Please don't take my Kaylee away
To the tune of How Much Is That Doggie In The Window:
How much is that Gator in the window? *(arf, arf!)*
The one with the waggley tail
How much is that Gator in the window? *(arf, arf!)*
I do hope that Gator's for sale
(My birds love doing the arf-arf part!)
To the tune of I'm a Little Teapot:
Even though it doesn't include a place for your parrot's name, I just can't leave out the Quaker Parrot Song (created by Kathleen Carr). I'll never forget how enchanted I was the first time I heard the audio of her birds singing this song. Amazing!
I'm a little Quaker, green and stout,
Open up my cage and let me out.
Better pick me up or else I'll squawk,
Rub my tummy and then I'll talk.
And here are Kathleen Carr's birds singing The Quaker Song:

Thank you soo much for letting us hear your little cutie!!! I am in the process of looking for the birdbest suited for our family. We have one cockatiel (Booboo) and would like to get a few more small birds. We are looking for a smaller bird in the Parrot family.Yet a bird with a bit more personality.I have had a very hard time making a choice. I didn't realize how many different parrots there are to choose from and how different they all are. Well to make a long story short….This adorable little vocal pleasure helped me decide to make a Quaker the next member of our family. Vocal ability was definately a factor for us, althought by far not the biggest concern….but I played that little clip over and over and it was not at all what I expected…as far as voice…but your little cutie won me over. It is amazing such a little bird can sing a whole nursery rhyme..with enthusiasm!!! LOVED IT!!! THANK YOU!!!

Do you have any other birds? I was also looking at African Parrots, like Senegals. How do you suppose a Quaker would get along with a Senegal? Would they ever be able to be cage mates? Or would a quaker be happiest with another quaker. I've heard quakers can be bully's to smaller birds…but would it "pick on a bird it's own size"?
I am bombarding you with questions..Sorry…I just want to know everything I need to know about these guys before I bring one into our home. I am so glad I found this site!!!ANYONE with info and advise on keeping several different bird species together.

If you have other birds. I would love to hear recordings of them also. It must be so wonderful to show off your beauties.

Hey everyone, I just thought I would share a song my quaker sings. His name is Nacho, and everyone remembers the Macho man song right? Well my bird sings:
NACHO, NACHO BIRD
I WANT TO BE A NACHO BIRD
NACHO, NACHO BIRD
I WANT TO BE A NACHO BIRD!
He will also say "are you OK?" whenever he hears someone coughing. I love him to death!

I also absolutely LOVE hearing that little cutie pie sing! I am soon going to be a proud Quaker mom. I've picked a young one that is still getting handfed 3 times a day. I've held him, stoked him, and the moment I saw him I was in love. This site has given me so much info. Now all I need to do is get all of his stuff and pick a name!!! I want something that's 2 syllables like Zazoo, Gumby, Gizmo, Milo, Abu, Aussie, Sydney, etc. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I like Disney-type characters!!

Oh, dear christ that was the best ever. Giggles and cute hugs! I nearly shit myself when I heard those cuties singing. I want to make up some songs for Snookie and Tater Tot, my pair of african greys. Christ, I near fell off the sofa and spilled my doritos with this. Very cute and 'dorable.

My Bogie listens to Oldies 50's and 60's when I'm at work. Anything else makes him scream. And whenever he likes a song, usually a really upbeat song he'll start dancing. And an old movie with singing is another strange liking of his. He now is whistling the theme to "The Bridge on the River Kiwi.
