Quaker Parrots vs Bourke Parakeets

by Heike Ewing Ott

Have you ever wondered about the differences in personality between the Quaker Parrot and Bourke Parakeet? This brief article includes some observations from an experienced bird owner and breeder.

Bourke Parakeets are very pretty, and they are much quieter than Quakers Parrots. They are also mild and gentle birds.

They generally don't talk, and if they do their quality of "speech" is very poor, more like a cockatiel than a Quaker. They also don't have much of a "personality," at least not like a Quaker.

They are excellent aviary birds and make a pleasant, gentle first pet for a child or someone who doesn't expect a lot of their bird, but they are not very intelligent and can't be expected to interact with you like a Quaker or larger parrot.
